Finally some good news!

I have been strugleing since last june as i had to basically give away my cleaning bussines.I applied for disability in Oct. after lots of paperwork & endless doctor ,specialist visits ,MRIs ,xrays ,shrinks i got approved.
Thanks to many many prayers.

I was approved for disability in April of 2005 for mulitiple health issues. Going after disability is very degrading. The papers you have to fill out are enough to make most people give up. They (the system) make you feel like you are asking them to commit muder, when all you are asking for is help. I was denied the first time and after getting help was approved by a judge without ever having to see him. He really ripped them apart for not giving it to me to start with. Now about every 3 years I have to fill out papers to prove that I am still disabled.

So, with that said congrats to you for getting it. I would gladly go back to work if it meant having no pain anymore.

I've heard from others on the forum about the mounds of paperwork, etc., you have to battle to get disability.

Let me add my congratulations on you finally receiving your Social Security 'award' (their term). 

I know how much of a victory this is because my wife went through the SSD labyrinth in the mid-90's and finally had to engage an attorney specializing in helping disabled people obtain SS disability benefits before receiving her 'award'.  The frustrating part was that she was already receiving monthly disability payments from her long-term disability insurance with her employer (an insurance company, no less!)   The company informed her that because she was eligible for SS benefits, they expected her to apply for them or they would simply deduct what SS would pay from her regular disability paycheck, which was 70% of her former salary.  She applied, went through the usual battles and was finally approved after nearly two years.  Now, she receives two checks: one from her long-term disability insurance with her employer (she's still technically an employee) and one from the SSA.  They total the 70% of her former salary she was entitled to through her employer's disability insurance coverage.  The bottom line is that her employer saves quite a bit of money because my wife receives Social Security Disability payments each month, reducing the insurance companies liability to meet the 70% figure.  She has no real choice in this, it is an employer mandate. 

Again, I'm pleased to learn that you finally prevailed in the SS wars.  Too bad it had to be so difficult.

Thanks All!I got approved 3 months ago then it went in front of a review board,then sent back to determination services who had to up date all paperwork form oct sent back out again & approved.YAY!
Maybe some day i will be in working order but for now i can not possibly do any thing.Just going to the grocery store is hell.

Good for you.  Living with headaches and facial pain on a daily basis is a living nightmare.  I live that nightmare most days.  I have to think about applying for Canada Pension Disability myself.

Cin,  Another battle won, i am so glad your paperwork finally came through!
What an ordeal, but i hope this all helps in your day-to-day living.

My thoughts and prayers to all who have to struggle like this.
I know i would like to 'retire' one day from my job - but right now i like to work and get out of the house.
(My mom is 80 yrs. old and still working part - time (!) - but now she has to decide about quitting because my dad needs more help and has Parkinson's.)
And i find myself thinking that one day i might be in your shoes as well.  So i listen, learn, and try to understand what you are going thru.

You, who have applied for disability, i admire your determination and strength of character!
