Does anyone know what "House" wants for a consult?

I'm still confused.  I went to pick up my films and they gave me a huge envelope with the sheets of films in them.  Won't a copy of CD do?  Plus I would need the films back because they want 10 dollars a sheet to replace them. Thanks,  Susan

You'll need to ask the hospital to provide a CD of the MRI scan that you can send through the mail.  To the best of my knowledge, HEI doesn't charge for viewing your MRI scan and phoning you with an opinion.  It's a 'marketing' strategy that is appreciated and works well for all concerned.

Usually most places if it is for another doctor they are suppose to give it them free of charge they already billed your insurance company and it is for a medical consultation not your own personal use.

Thanks Jim!  I did not have to pay anything yesterday, they just told me that I would not be able to get the large sheets of films again unless I pay for them.  I have already picked 2 cd's and they have not charged me anything.  The CD will sure be easier to send.  Thats what I'll do.   Susan

                  Sometimes it is who you talk to on that particular day.    Five months ago I went to pick up my MRI disk and then two weeks later picked up another copy for a different doc.  and they didn't have any problems with that and no charge.   Today I went to pick up two copies of my latest MRI and they told me in no uncertain terms,  I could only have one copy.  After I explained that two different doctors needed the updated disks they informed me it cost way too much money to make an extra copy and the two doctors would have to share the disk.   Go figure.    I wasn't in the mood to argue,  but probably should have.   Bryan

I have taken the cd from a scan and burned its entire contents to a blank cd and that worked fine. The cost - 25 cents for the cd and 10 minutes of my time. It's interesting dealing with these radiology outfits sometimes....

                        I thought about copying the disk also ,  but figured it was some medically encrypted code or something and couldn't be done.  How many images are on a MRI disk anyway?    I slid mine in my computer and only came up with 8 or ten pics.   There had to be more?   I just assumed you needed some special software to fully look at them.

My husband actually took the disk to work and burned a couple o for me.  I am going to send the original to House because I thought the same thing, something could be missing.  Does anyone know for sure?  Thanks again.  Susan

To be honest, I dig into these things mostly because I enjoy it, not befause I'm an expert. The CDs that I have received have no special encryption. They do, however, include viewing software, which for me. Has meant that so long as I include the viewer when I burn the cd, then the new cd works just like the original. I have even replaced drfective viewer software with software from working CDs and fixed one that didn't work correctly.

I have sent copies to House, and they've never said anything about them.

Sorry for the "geeky" reply. The bottom line is: It's easy and inexpensive to burn a CD.

I'm actually starting to like "geeky"  Anyway I appreciate your input and the software thing makes a lot of sense.  That explains why we had trouble reading the disk at home.

Glad to help. I am not certain, but I don't think that they always include the viewer application when CDs are burned. And even sending a cd isn't always necessary now. I live in very rural Wyoming and when I developed hydrocephalus, Dr. Hitselberger was able to log in to my local hospital's radiology application and read my scans from LA. Intersting stuff...

Are the radiologists supposed to release your MRI results if you ask? My husband has asked for his and they say they can only be released to a doctor. He is supposed to take a hard copy of his MRI on Tuesday to his appointment, which we just found out about today when the paperwork came in the mail. Hubby's ENT doesn't have a hard copy just the results read to him over the phone with the originals sent directly to the specialist, but this is not a "hard" copy they were sent via the computer....very confused here

I was able to get films, cd AND a radiologist report all without any issues....I sent a copy of the report and CD (which I could copy onto a blank CD with no problems) to House and that was that...no muss...no fuss!
