Muscle movements 3 years post paralysis?
« on: March 16, 2010, 07:36:44 am »
nearing 3 years post op in July. I was sitting watching tv and felt my chin and lip moving and went to look in mirror and could watch it tighten then release. I wasn't doing it on purpose.
My therapist years ago said that if this happened when you were not purposefully moving your face that it was nerve regeneration taking place and the face will do that.
hmmmmmmmmm...I'm thinking that this isn't the case nearly 3 years post op.
I had complete facial paralysis and now at a grade 2/3.
What are your thoughts?
Todd.......therapist. Any ideas?
I had MVD for HFS not an AN and I know what hemifacial spasms feel like and this isn't HFS.
Thanks for any insight.
Angie

Hi Angie. I have heard of recovery even five years out, so I think it's well within the realm of possibility for you. I truly hope and pray this will result in more movement for you.

Are you still seeing that therapist? Can you get an appointment or contact him/her to see if that's what is happening?

Sara

P.S. I have had twitching under both eyes recently (not at the same time). Not the same as HFS, but disconcerting nonetheless.

Sara - I've had twitching under my 'bad' eye lately, too. It's weird to watch but I hope it means movement is returning soon!

It must be something in the weather :o

I'm now 9 months post op. I have had no facial issues until recently. I started the INSANITY workout program to fight off some of this blob I've accumulated & altho my face isn't twitching, I can definitely feel something going on w/my eye area, down the cheek & corner of my lip.

I did have hemifacial spasms and Hemangioma, not AN & am afraid the little bit they couldn't get might be causing havoc again. Pre-surgery, I would get spasms mostly when I was working out hard & exerting myself. Now it is happenning again. I'm a bit concerned & was just thinking of emailing my doctor. I know he will say don't worry. My annual MRI is coming up soon tho.

BTW, I'm glad to report that my balance seems to be fine. I'm doing alot of core balancing exercises & only wobble a bit on my leg w/the metal plate. So I have screws, plates & a hole in my head :D Life is good otherwise.

I am four years post op and still seeing some minor things.  I can do like a mona lisa grin now without using my tongue from the 12/7 graft.  I wonder if its still working.  My new AN doc said that he didnt expect much this late after the 12/7 so I got frustrated and started moving my face on my own.  I sat in front of the mirror trying as hard as I possibly could til it moved..and it did! I really think I need to see Todd again...
