nausea anyone?

I am almost 3 months post-op retrosig., 3 wks ago my headaches started getting worse, different from the ones I had after surgery.  I also started having nausea and dry heaves with and without the headache.  I am experiencing slight balance issues but not always with the nausea.  It seems to be a problem not caused by the others.  The doctor said it is normal, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this and what have you done about it.

Hi, Jennifer ~

I'm sorry to learn of your headaches and nausea.  As an AN patient that underwent retrosigmoid surgery to debulk my tumor, I can attest that I didn't experience headaches and/or nausea but both are not uncommon, although they usually occur in the first few days post-op, while you're in the hospital.  I would further question your doctor about this and ask for medication to help alleviate the headache pain as well as the concurrent nausea, which can be detrimental to your well being if it continues for any length of time.  I hope this passes, soon.

I've never experienced headaches from my surgery (retrosigmoid) but had severe nausea in the first few days post op.  It went away after that, never to return.  But all AN patients are somewhat unique in what they experience so I'm not sure your symptoms are cause for alarm.

I think one of the main things is to make your doctor aware of what is going on - which you have.  If he/she says it's normal, I'd go with that.

I have nausea and take promethazine for it on bad days.

I've had a similar experience. I had headaches and nausea before surgery, which seemed to be somewhat better after surgery initially, but around the 3- months post-op mark the headaches started getting bad again, around 4-5 months postop the nausea was back. Then around 5-6 months post op more dizziness. I talked to the ENT at my 6 month post op appointment, who ordered an MRI. The MRI was 'good', though, so I'm basically being told it's normal/just deal with it.  The 'good news' for me is that it's an up-and-down type thing so some days are fine (and some days are really not fine..).

My nausea comes and goes too.  I went almost a week without any and then the other day had dry heaves so bad an instant severe headache started, I think from the movement of my head with the dry heaves?  The neurosurgeons office is referring me to a headache specialist, the nausea doesn't always come with a headache but hopefully they are related and the dr can help with both.
