Clean MRI - 3 yrs post-op!
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:20:37 am »
Hello everybody,

This Sunday was 3 years post-op and today my MRI results are in - NO TUMOR, NO SCAR TISSUE!!! In other words, it is completely clean. I think I will be having the next one in another 2 years to mark my 5 year post-op anniversary. To say that this is great is an understatement. This AN tried to rule my life  for 22 years and was initially life-threatening. I am still weary of saying "It is all over" but the results are incredibly encouraging and mean that I don't have to think about treatment or monitor its growth. I am so happy I am ready to cry.

This forum has been a lifesaver. I only wish it existed when I had my first AN surgery in 1988. Family and friends just do not understand all of our issues. Only people who had AN can. Thanks everybody who contributes and keeps this forum going!

                      Eve
Right side AN (6x3x3 cm) removed in 1988 by Drs. Benjamin & Cohen at NYU (16 hrs); nerves involved III - XII.
Regrowth at the brainstem 2.5 cm removed by Dr.Shahinian in 4 hrs at SBI (hopefully, this time forever); nerves involved IV - X with VIII missing. No facial or swallowing issues.

Eve ~

Congratulations on your 'clean' MRI report!  I'm very happy for you and I want to mention that you've been a real asset to the ANA forums,. Your many contributions are much appreciated - and we thank you.  Now, try to put this AN stuff behind you and go enjoy your life!  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.
