Moffitt
« on: May 24, 2006, 02:17:12 pm »
I know Batty had microsurgery from Dr. Brem at Moffitt, but has anyone had experience with CK or GK at Moffitt?  I'm sending my MRI to them for a consult and it might be good to have a name.  Does Brem also do CK or GK?

Not to my knowledge he's a neurosurgeon.  It is a top notch facility and if you call their 800 number the patient care coordinators can answer any questions.

Good luck!

Not that I'm in any way recommending it, but Shands seems to be the place to go if you're in FL. That's just the way of things; if you're really really sick, you go to Shands. They treat tons of patients with serious conditions, so they can afford to have highly specialized personnel.

I may be way off on this, but I don't think Moffitt has GK or CK. I believe they use the Novalis machine, or something similar. That info should be available on their website. I'm going on memory here (which is dangerous), but I think the CK facilities in FL are in Ft. Myers, West Palm and Miami. Last I knew the one in Ft. Myers was offering a special on an AN zap and golf package. :P

Dr. Friedman at Shands does gamma.

I unf. didn't have the time it took to get into shands for any treatment.  I was told by two specialist one in miami and tampa that if I waited more than 6 weeks for treatment I'd be critical and shands couldn't get me in until 2 months past that.

I never looked into gamma or ck options as I wasn't given that choice.  :o(

It's Naples, not Ft. Myers, sorry, and I can't seem to find their specials anymore. When I was looking at them as a possible treatment option, I remember seeing that an AN zap, some sort of knee operation and one other procedure were on special, and a treatment/golf package was available. I wonder if anyone ever postponed a procedure and waited for it to go on sale.

Well, If they were smart they'd put one o' them Zappers on a big Cruise ship and sell a Zap 'N Cruise package!

*snort* What is wrong with you people? Are you going to turn this post into "Good Morning 2?" Listen, just because this particular facility takes pains to ensure that the golf needs of patients and visitors are met does NOT mean that the doctors there can't cut the chrome off of a trailer hitch with a cyberknife.

Seriously Fran, Moffitt is supposed to be excellent, and it certainly won't hurt to have the docs there look at your pretty pictures. I have a friend from law school that had cancer treatments at Moffitt, and she has very good things to say about them. They deal with problems much more wicked than your lil ol' AN, and I'm certain that they'll steer you in the right direction.

I had my treatment at Moffitt and it's an excellent facility.  Ten years ago my husband received cancer treatments there.  I think they were newly opened then and they were top notch and very compassionate.  It had not changed as far as care went.
