Insurance approved for a new hole in my head!
« on: March 15, 2011, 03:55:09 pm »
Insurance came through! My BAHA surgery is set for March 29th.  I'll be going to see Dr. Friedman at HEI for the procedure. I thought it was an "office visit" type thing, but he'll be doing it at St. Vincent's and I have to be there at 9:30 for a 1:00 surgery.  What will they be doing with me all morning?

As much as I'm looking forward to this, I am more nervous about this procedure than I was about the real surgery 9 weeks ago. I guess the thought of a screw being screwed in to my skull just seems like it will be painful. BUT, I'm taking everyone's word that it is much easier than the AN surgery. ;)

The best part of this, is that since I have maxed out my out of pocket for my insurance...the entire thing is covered...100%!  8)

Looking forward to being a member in the BAHA group ;)
Debbie

One can never have too many holes in her head!   ::)

Don't be nervous - you'll be amazed at how easy it is!

I'm sure they plan on making you wait patiently while your stomach growls all morning.  Bring a book!   ;)

Debbie -

BAHA implant surgery is definitely not an office procedure, but the good news is that it's an outpatient procedure.

And, yes, it's MUCH easier than AN surgery.

I don't know if Dr. Friedman uses local or general anesthesia, but if you're thinking local isn't the way to go I'm sure he'll agree to "put you out".  Some docs do local with sedation to help the patient with the drilling.  I had local with no sedation (was wide awake) and didn't feel any pain at all.

You'll do great!  ;D

Good luck,

Jan
Retrosig 5/31/07 Drs. Battista & Kazan (Hinsdale, Illinois)
Left AN 3.0 cm (1.5 cm @ diagnosis 6 wks prior) SSD. BAHA implant 3/4/08 (Dr. Battista) Divino 6/4/08  BP100 4/2010 BAHA 5 8/2015

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways
