Thought I would share this story.
3 weeks ago, I noticed my retiered Police dog "Uno", a 14 yr old Sheppard, laying in my yard, with one of females barking over him and licking his head. Uno had vomitted, his eyes were rolling, very disorientated, none alert, and could get up on his own. My first thought was that he had a stroke, and this was the end. I called my Vet, with the very difficult decision to put him down. With a heavy heart and many tears, I put his old badge on him, lifted him into my unit, and took him to my Vet. He took one look at him and said lets' give this a week, and see if he improves. He said he believes that what my dog had is called "Canine Vestibular Syndrome" which is an inflammation of the Vestibular nerve. I had to administer IV's to Uno for three days, and on the fourth day, he started to stand on his own, and his eye rolling subsided. He now is alert, still act's like his a pup again, of course that only lasts a short while, then takes a nap. His head is slightly tilted, and still, or will always have some balance issues. Of course now that's' he's well, I can reflect and see the humor that both of us can catch each other when we stumble, Ha Ha, life's a trip!
