MRI and BAHA
« on: February 15, 2012, 08:24:04 am »
I have my final (5 years post) mri and the nurse called saying I may not be able to have since I have the screw for the BAHA in.  Has anyone had an MRI with their screw from BAHA in?

Three times in the last year. The radiologist was confused the first time, but we got that taken care of.

I think titanium isn't affected by such things, is it? Or are the surgical posts they use in BAHA's surgical steel? Now I gotta look it up...:)  I don't know when or if I will have another MRI but definitely something to consider when I do!

the screw is titanium and doesnt hinder a MRI.  Mine is next thurs and the abutment has never been a problem.

I had my first MRI after the abutment in November.  The local hospital staff refused to do it without a faxed permission from HEI ..... so there was a bit of a delay, but no problem after the fax came through.  Think it was a liability issue for them.

Someone at the hospital is confused.  If necessary, have them call Dr. Battista; he'd be happy to set them straight.

I've had 4 post-AN MRIs with my BAHA - all at Hinsdale Hospital (one of the best machines around) - and have had no issues at all.

The "screw" and the other BAHA "equipment" are titanium, which means they are non-magnetic and not an issue for MRIs machines.

Maybe someone is confusing the BAHA with a CI (Cochlear Implant) which is magnetic   ::)

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways
