I am four years out now from GK treatment and like to post when I receive my MRI news. My post GK path has been a rocky one to say the least. Today I FINALLY received news of a 1 MM shrinkage. It is the first time I have heard the news. I have heard things like, possible growth, definite growth, etc... since 2010. Now, to hear of a 1 MM shrinkage at the fourth year is thrilling. I am walking on cloud nine! Truly, I have an answered prayer today and am feeling grateful beyond measure.
The neurosurgeon who has read my MRI's since 2008 came into the office today with a big smile and told me he that the news was "splendid". He told me he hardly ever got to share good news with patients (his speciality is glioma tumors) and he was so glad he could share good news with me. He said if I had received more radiation or had surgery since they thought I had growth, it would have been for nothing. He told me I was back to a one year schedule and not to let anyone do any type of treatment for the tumor, as it was not necessary. I was so happy to hear the good news that I cried!
If any of you have a tumor that has questionable growth post radiation and it is not so large that surgery is a must, you might need to wait if symptoms do not surface. I did a lot of research through this forum and found some others who had tumors that settled down years down the road. Anyway, I hope this post can help someone who may be in a similar situation!!
