Hi Everyone,
I am 19 years old, and I have been deaf since I was in 5th grade, so since I was 11. I had an appointment yesterday with a new doctor (I’ve had about 5 different ones since my hearing loss), and I was just made aware of options to help with my hearing loss. After asking for over 8 years of any types of options, I finally found a doctor who truly cared and would help me.
Anyways, there has never been a definitive cause of my hearing loss. The suspects are viruses, shingles, or a random attack on my body. I’m thinking that might be the reason for not hearing of these options? That, or I had bad doctors…
I’m going in for a consultation on August 13th, and we are going to discuss the BAHA vs. the Soundbite system with my audiologist. I know I am going to learn about it there, but I was hoping to get some more feedback about these two systems. I’m aware that this post is mostly about the BAHA, but I was wondering if anyone considered the Soundbite?
I’m very concerned about my hair…how much do they remove, can I wear my hair normally, etc. I love my hair, and I wear it down frequently. Also, I am concerned about cleaning. I am an athlete in college (Field hockey to be exact) and I work out a lot. That means sweating a good amount. Will these present a problem? What do I need to do to clean it? Is it irritating?
Sorry for all these questions…but this is the beginning of (hopefully) a new life with better hearing quality.
I do not have AN, however, I do suffer from SSD. I cannot find any other forum online with such comprehensive information about the options available, that I figured I would try here and as some questions. Thank you so much.
Thank you!
