Long Term Care insurance request denied
« on: August 20, 2013, 01:53:51 pm »
I recently applied for Long Term Care insurance through Unum Life insurance Company.  My request for insurance was declined "based on a history of acoustic neuroma..."
(Note - My 9mm AN was treated successfully via CyberKnife 18 months ago.)  Has anyone else had an issue obtaining LTC insurance ?

You're just going to have to try other insurance companies.

Here are some underwriting guides for LTC insurance that address acoustic neuromas.

There might be more underwriting guides from different companies at:

Some companies might take you as is. Some might surcharge.

Keep at it.

I was also turned down for long term care insurance by Mutual of Omaha (permanently, claim they won't cover at all) and told to apply again in 3 years by Northwest Mutual and one year by Genworth for the possibility of joining a high risk class (read very high cost class).  Was told that they are extremely stringent in this area and I will be unlikely to ever qualify without successful surgery or else shrinkage or long term stability (no growth at all) of the tumor.  I have to say I did not see this one coming as I am a newly diagnosed patient on the watch and wait list with a very small tumor.

I also would like to hear about the experience of others on this subject.
