2 year post GK MRI should I be concerned?
« on: March 19, 2014, 06:14:05 pm »
MRI shows decreased central necrosis and "thickening enhancement".  No growth is noted.  My Dr. says tumor might be swelling but wants another MRI in 6 months instead of waiting a year. Should I be concerned?

Thanks,
Upstate

I'm 14 months post GK and had a follow up MRI at 6 months and again just recently.

My recent MRI also showed decreased necrosis but the tumor was stable.

I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Report back after your next MRI.
3/15/18 12mm x 6mm x5mm
9/21/16 12mm x 7mm x 5mm
3/23/15 12mm x 5.5mm x 4mm
3/13/14 12mm x 6mm x 4mm
8/1/13 14mm x 5mm x 4mm (Expected)
1/22/13 12mm x 3mm (Gamma Knife)
10/10/12 11mm x 4mm x 5mm
4/4/12 9mm x 4mm x 3mm (Diagnosis)

Its very common to see necrosis in the first MRI at 6 months and have the dark spot disappear at 2 years.
It doesn't mean the tumour isn't dying. It normally means blood is flowing consistently through the tumour and is not a reflection on the life or death of the tumour.

The 2 Year Mark is important because by 3 years the tumour will most likely be the same size or smaller.
2-2.5 years typically marks the end of the swelling phase if it occurs.

Thanks for the replies. Arizonajack, I too hope to not lose any sleep over this. And I will post my 6 month MRI report.

Paul thanks for the link.  I will be researching.  I find it interesting tumors can still swell 2 years after treatment.

Thanks again,
Upstate
