Metallic taste post Cyberknife
« on: April 28, 2014, 08:09:07 am »
I am eight months from having Cyberknife surgery on my AN. At my first post surgery check in February, 75% of the tumor was black, indicating that the tumor was responding well to treatment.  Nevertheless I have recently developed an unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth.  Could this be the result of my AN?  If so is there hope that it will go away?  Everything I eat tastes off, and I am not happy!

I had CK Nov '08.  By July '09 (eight months) I had the metallic taste.  It did go away.  I don't remember exactly how long.  It lasted a while, maybe close to a year, but did go away.  You may not have it that long.  The main thing is try not to worry about it.
L An diagnosed 5/08 2.0 x 1.1 x 1.3 cm.  Cyberknife Stanford Drs Chang and Gibbs Nov '08.  One yr: 2.1 x 1.4 x 1.6, Two yr: 2.2 x 1.5 x 1.8, Three yr: 1.9 x 1.5 x 1.5, Four year 1.6 x 1.1 x 1.1, Six yr: 1.4 x .7 x .9

I had GK in February 2014.  I developed the same metallic taste on the GK side about a month and a half later.  I've now had it almost every day for a month.  It sounds like it may last a while.  I am not able to take steroids for swelling due to allergic reaction and instead use Advil and Zyrtec when it feels like my symptoms are getting worse.  They have had no impact on the metallic taste.  I'm assuming it is residual radiation seeping through the sinuses.  Unfortunately, getting a hold of my neurosurgeon's office to ask questions post surgery is next to impossible.  Has anyone else gotten an explanation for the metallic taste?

I didn't have CK, I had Middle fossa and my taste is a touch off, not bad at all, but my doc said because the facial nerve sends signals to the tongue as well. He said it should go away with time.
