Your "Good"Ear after Surgery
« on: August 20, 2015, 03:15:39 pm »
Hi everyone,

I've put this question in a few places on the forum, with no responses. I'm really curious if this has been discussed before or not- what things does everyone experience after surgery with their GOOD ear? After my surgery to remove a 3.5cm AN, my right ear is completely deaf, but the left (good) ear is acting up! Since surgery 4 months ago, I have had mild hyperacousis in the good ear, very random bouts of tinnitus (2-3 seconds of ringing, maybe once or twice a week, MRI confirmed there's nothing growing on that side), thumping in my good ear when I wake up in the morning, and a fullness in the good ear. It also tends to 'pop' a lot when I swallow. I know hyperacousis is common, but what about the others? anyone? anyone?

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Is this normal? Is it the brains adjustment to only having one ear? I did read somewhere that the new tinnitus in the deaf ear can sometimes cause the brain to misfire and send the sound to the other ear, but I'm not sure that is medically supported :)

Any comments are appreciated!! Thank you!!

I am SSD in my left (AN) ear and have worn a BAHA since 9 months post AN op.

My right (good) ear has 100% hearing; I've experienced no issues with it at all.

I don't currently have tinnitus and have never had it.

My surgery was 5/31/07.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

My surgery was March 2010 and I am SSD. My good ear is going south and can no longer hear my BP100 without it being turned up as loud as it will go. It is at full gain. About 30 minutes ago my new BAHA 5 arrived and my appointment to get it turned on is Thursday Aug 27.

Following surgery, loud sounds hurt my good ear. It really hurt. I have tinnitus in both ears, even though my right ear was removed. Just proves tinnitus is in your brain, not in your ear. No fullness in my good ear.

hope you like the BAHA 5.  I upgraded a few weeks ago and just had it programmed last week.  I really like it - especially the iPhone app - I've been out to eat and to a concert since I got it and it performed in those (noisy/crowded) environments very well.

Not to highjack  the thread but mine will not hook up to my iphone. My Resound hearing aid is wifi and it is excellent. Calling Cochlear later today for help.
