Dr. Hansen at University of Iowa
« on: June 16, 2016, 03:10:07 pm »
I just had my post op appointment about a month after a middle fossa surgery.
I can not say enough good things about Dr. Marlan Hansen.  He was very available, answered my emails, and had a great calm way about him.  My surgery was very successful, he saved my hearing.  My second MRI looked great, he said.
I would highly recommend him if you can find your way to Iowa City.
Vestibular Schwannoma 1.2 cm. Right side.
Middle fossa surgery at University of Iowa on May 9 2016.
Hearing saved.  Face is fine. Balance pretty darn good most days.
One year follow up MRI showed no tumor.
Five year follow up showed no tumor, so I'm in the clear.

Congratulations on the great outcome!
Diagnosed June 2014 1cm AN at 47 years of age.  Had fluctuating symptoms since 2006.    6 mos MRI (Dec 2014) showed no growth, MRI  in July 2015 showed no growth.  MRI Jan 2016 showed no growth.  MRI Aug 2016 showed no growth.  I'm gonna ride the WW train as long as I can.

And Dr Gantz.      Dr Gantz lost his wife this spring to ALS.        I had wondered about why more patients seemed to be going to Hansen lately.        Sad when read her obit in Iowa City paper.             Hansen did my CSF leak which was on a Fri evening and I did like him too.                   I always add my leak was due to them using a new colloidal implant product which was cheaper but 3 people then had leaks.       Made by Medtronic too.     So back to their previous product.
I have recommended Univ of Iowa to many ANers.        I will be a 15 yr alumni of there in Nov due to my 3 tumors due to NF2.                  They have had many out of state patients come there.                         Cheryl R
