Doc unsure Sudden onset hearing loss or Meniures

2 days only left ear - hearing loss,buzzing/swishing noise + severe headache & nauseous.. Prescribed 60mg Prednisone for 10 days & praying Hearing returns & buzzing/swishing disappears..
Any advice is appreciated

From what you've written, it looks like you're two days after surgery. People here can only speculate on what is going on, however what type of surgery did to have and how big was your tumor? This information may help others answer your question.

(By the way, translabyrinthine method (through the ear) removes the cochlear and semi-circular canals so you are guaranteed to have no hearing left in the affected side, and depending on how long you've had symptoms, may require a period of readjustment as the other ear takes over the function of balance (central compensation). Also, from reading here, few surgeries preserve hearing no matter what method is employed.))

Sorry to hear you are having hearing problems. The buzzing/swishing noise is likely tinnitus,, many people have it with or without an AN. Sorry to say, it may not go away but may get better with the meds. Your hearing may improve also with the steroid treatment. I have read of people who see hearing improve after a round of steroids. Maybe yours wil too,,

After the steroids, maybe if you have not shown improvement, your doctor will order an MRI with contrast to see if anything is going on,, try to be patient for 10 days,,

My journey started similar. During my first visit the ENT suspected I had otosclerosis, but in parallel I was put on steroids to rule out my SSD was a result of an autoimmune disease. In parallel I received CAT and MRI with contrast. After the MRI, my brain tumor was confirmed, which was initially diagnosed as a meningioma. Took a few more specialists until we confirmed the AN.

It appears your ENT is taking a conservative approach.  If the SSD stops after a couple weeks of steroids, this will provide evidence for an autoimmune disease.

Personally, I would ask the ENT to prescribe an MRI with contrast. This would be one more tool in the diagnosis.

If you're paranoid request that they do an MRI w/ contrast. Tell them why. I had sudden hearing loss and the doc prescribed me something similar, but ordered an MRI anyways and it turns out I had one all along.
