help!
« on: November 12, 2006, 11:48:23 pm »
I'm new at this so please bear with me.  I had an enhanced mri three years ago that showed no an. The doctors insisted that it is Meniere's.  I have since had daily attacks of vertigo, constant tinnitus, ear fullness, hearing loss.  My question is: Is it possible that even though nothing showed up on my mri 3 years ago, could something show up now?  Thank you for any guidance that you can give me.

Hi 'Casey'...

If you are not satisfied that you have had the correct diagnosis for Menier's and having regard to your current symptoms after some 3 years following your MRI scan, I would be inclined to be seeking a consultation with an ENT / Neuro specialist with a view to having another MRI scan with contrast...for your peace of mind!

Derek
Residing UK. In 'watch & wait' since diagnosis in March 2002 with right side AN. Initially sized at 2.5cm and now self reduced to 1.3cm.
All symptoms have abated except impaired hearing on affected side which is not a problem for me.

I agree you would be wise to request another MRI.  My first, 4 years ago, did not show any tumor but the one this past June did; 9.5 mm.  I chose Cyberknife treatment at Stanford after months of research. '

Thank you for your responses.  I just wasn't sure that it would be possible for an acoustic neuroma to show up now.  The symptoms have gotten worse and the length of episodes are getting longer than when I had my initial mri's.  I sometimes feel like I have no quality of life, constant tinnitus, severe vertigo etc., but then I have to remember that there are alot of people out there that are so much worse than me.  It is refreshing to speak to people that go through the same issues as yourself.
Thanks Again

Casey you are your best advocate...get a second opinion and a repeat mri.  Don't go to the same mri place if you can help it and don't worry about making the first guy mad!  Let us know how you come out!
