Face nerve problems , ticking and itching.
« on: March 02, 2023, 08:47:08 pm »
Hi All,
I hope all are doing good. I’m in wait and watch status with 2.1 cm right AN.
I have some face itching at my face nowadays, feeling  to scratch.
I wonder if my facial nerve effected, and is it can cause serious problems?
Is there anyone has this kind of problem and how long?
I’m wondering specially for people in watch and wait status for a long time has
This problem and how long.
I wish all best… Thanks
Sera

Hi there!  I am certainly not a doctor, so I really do not know the answer to your question, but I can share my experience.  I was a 1.2 CM tumor.  In the time between my diagnosis and my surgery, I had the same symptoms as you: itching, twitching, etc.  I called my doctor/surgeon and he said he wasn't worried about it.  He said that often people who know they have a tumor then are hyper sensitive to everything.  I definitely think that was the case for me.
I don't know if this helps or not, but please know that others have had the symptoms (me!) and it was nothing to worry about.

Vestibular Schwannoma 1.2 cm. Right side.
Middle fossa surgery at University of Iowa on May 9 2016.
Hearing saved.  Face is fine. Balance pretty darn good most days.
One year follow up MRI showed no tumor.
Five year follow up showed no tumor, so I'm in the clear.

Hi sera!  Thanks for posting your questions on the Forum.

I have been in the wait and watch protocol for quite some time, and like Greece Lover said, anything unusual with my face starts to concern me.  In fact, anything different with my balance or with anything else causes me to start to worry.  And yet, so far none of my concerns have been valid.  I don't want to say that there is nothing to what you are experiencing because (as Greece Lover stated), I am not a physician and do not know that.  All I can say from personal experience is that while I'm in wait and watch, I tend to magnify any symptoms which I wouldn't have paid any attention to prior to my acoustic neuroma journey.

Best wishes!
Don
Burning Tongue, Loss of Hearing & Balance, and Tinnitus led to MRI. Very small AN found on 11/23/2021
While watching and waiting, lost significant hearing. WRS now at 12% (down from 100%). Was fitted with CROS system on 3/7/22.  Stable MRI on 7/29/22
No treatment yet.

Don this is so true- my deep nerve pain in that ear I thought was from growing- in fact 4th MRI it has shrunk by almost half and the trigeminal nerve is healthy. SO- either the pain is TMJ (and doing you tube face massage etc for this has halted the pain completely) or as my husband says it was from the shrinking!
