Astaxanthin for Contrast in MRI
« on: July 18, 2024, 01:56:50 am »
Protection for contrast use in MRI. I also take bit NAC - though I no longer have contrast. Still this worth a read ( I often take astaxanthin 12 mg anyway especially in Summer) : https://www.cardiologyresearchjournal.com/articles/research-progress-of-astaxanthin-on-contrast-agent-induced-acute-kidney-injury.html#:~:text=Many%20studies%20have%20proven%20that,therapeutic%20role%20in%20this%20condition.

Michelle- Thanks for the info!  I take krill oil daily which is a natural source of astaxanthin as well as omega 3's! Affirmation that what I am taking can help in this journey.

Hi there!

I no longer (past 5 years) have needed contrast - still this is good to know tho- I had also read that NAC might be helpful post contrast  and of course one should always check renal function anyway.
I take 12 mg astaxanthin (Green Nutrition) from time to time but especially in summer to protect my skin. At the moment I am taking a few things on and off (I decide daily what I want to target as I dont want to take a heap of supplements- even tho mine are all referenced back to nutritional sources. At the moment I am taking sea buckthorne for the dry eye situation and it has anti cancer etc etc . I think that SPM resolvins might also be helpful post contrast .

Thanks,  I did not know anything about that.  I am no longer going to use contrast but if needed it is good to have the information.
