Tinnitus? Meniere's Disease? Rosacea? Tannins? Food Allergies? Sleep disorders? … Any connection?

Rosacea defined
http://www.rosacea.org/index.php

I have some head, face flushing and sleep issues I was hoping were going to go away once the ‘whopping’ size tumor (although only 1/2 the size of Satman’s 8cm) came out… nada… now these occasional balance issues to add…

My sleep disorder I “think is from the tinnitus keeping me up at night (some nights it sounds like a refrigerator compressor in my head and I often get that electric shock sensation between the ears)

The “cause of Rosacea has just recently been discovered (announced in AUG 07)
http://ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/newsrel/health/08-07CauseOfRosaceaDK-.asp

One “protein stimulant that it being highly scrutinized for many issues (headaches, flushing, migraines etc) is “tannin....

Tannin defined
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tannin

There is also quite a bit of interest in the relationship between tannins and migraines recently.

Interesting Tannins and Migraines link

Even in my “House Calls magazine (from HEI) there is recent article, Titled
“Food For Your Ears:  Many of us do not realize how much foods we eat can affect our hearing and balance systemsâ€?
discussing research studies between food allergies and Meneier’s disease at the HEI allergy clinic.

I sure would be curious to hear of other Acoustic Neuroma Patients have facial flushing, refrigerators running in their heads at night and food responses buzzing their heads etc…

Just thought I would spark-plug a discussion here…

Cheers,

Be careful when reading about food allergy on the web .. EVERY food item has someone that's allergic to it .. and I mean everyone and every thing .. I quickly looked up water and found...

http://health.msn.com/centers/allergies/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100154510

should I avoid water.. of course not .* note - I work for a bottle water company * .  just use a little common sense when reading stories on the web ... ;D

Just remember, the web is nothing but a mens room wall .. do you believe everything you read on one?  ;)

Joef & Julie

Yup fisherman Joef   ;D had a good point about food allergies over-rated. For a long time I thought it was the tomatoes that made my ears ring- never dreamed of an acoustic neuroma tumor in my head... however tomatoes still make me flush and my ears ring like crazy… even after “Ted the tumorâ€? has recently left my head… so simply I avoid tomatoes.

Still I think the food allergen and balance research article in HEI magazine sounds very interesting.

I have a flag going off here…

Julie
I am concerned that you are having “unilateral facial flushing. Remember I am an AN patient not a medical practitioner. However I am thinking this is not rosacea, hormonal, tannin or allergy related. This would happen if your 5th cranial nerve (the facial nerve) is involved with your acoustic neuroma. I have sent you a personal note – please check your in box… but continue to think good thoughts… always

4, awesome articles, thanks for the read!

I am totally affected by what I eat, unfortch.  ALL the good stuff is on the "bad" list for me.  Anything aged.
UGH!  I absolutely LIVE for red wine (Tannin City), aged cheese and salami.
Well, not anymore, I don't.  BOOOO.
Never heard of tomatoes doing anything, but I will be sure to keep watch...  Because I eat so much tomato.
I used to get horrid stomach probs from sun-dried toms but that has mostly gone away.

I have decided to cut and paste a post I just made on another thread as I think it is applicable here too...

Marcia (and others),

Try to get through the stress of the high seas on this AN journey ship with as little drugs as possible (pharmaceutical, prescribed or otherwise)… reach out and talk to people who understand (AND ARE POSITIVE).

Marcia you wrote
“Haven't taken any prescriptions as of yet - kinda leary to due to side effects etc., Not sure if this would help disapate or just temporary - suggestions, comments etc much appreciated !

If one feels they are heading into a “clinical depression then drugs sometimes do have their place.
Clinical depression defined
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_depression

(Interesting that they put a Van Gogh painting on that link, for illustration, being that Vincent Van Gogh suffered from debilitating “tinnitus …and his depression ended his life. His paintings have since been carefully examined and it is well known that this artist worked with many very toxic art materials – lead paints included)

“Tinnitus defined
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus

The key thing is to find people you can talk to (this ANA forum is good for that – even if some of us sailors feel drunk from simply walking in the wind)

Apparently these things should be avoided in tinnitus: caffeine, nicotine, salt and the consumption of alcohol

Resources that support this…

I think the key is to carefully examine one’s lifestyle. Such obvious knowledge we all have: “a good nights sleep, consumer only nutritious foods, plenty of fresh air and exercise we often neglect due to our hectic society of busy schedules. The key is when terribly tense moments arise try to find some wildly hysterical humor in the situation -if you can. Humor can be so therapeutic if used wisely and it does not get out-of-hand. Once thing I liked about the PCP (GP for those Canadian and European AN readers) doctor's office I chose is that they have this posted in their waiting room area, “Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much

I believe it is from this original author (1904)
"He has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much."
