FSR side-effects
« on: December 13, 2007, 12:32:21 pm »

Hello everyone

I am new to this and have not posted before.

I had 5 weeks of FSR treatment about 5 months ago for a large AN (I'm being treated in the UK).  Over the last 2-3 weeks I've had really serious balance and vertigo problems combined with nausea and dizziness.  I've been off work with it.  The nausea is getting better, but the balance and vertigo issues remain - I'm a bit unsafe to leave the house by myself to be honest.

Is this normal?  How long is it going to last?  I've read of other peoples experiences of this type of problem on this site, but mine seems extreme.  Is it going to get better?

I'm feeling a bit desperate and depressed so any shared stories would help.

Thanks

Kelda

I havent been thru treatment yet. I am going to have CK done in Jan. Here is a website that might be more of a help to find answers. Cyberknife.org. They have drs that can help answer some quesitons. I hope this helps you.
I also hope you feel better soon!

After my FSR treatmnent (the first three or four weeks) I have fullness feeling in the ear. I didn't have any vertigo or dizziness problems since I've never had before. The symptoms supposed to get better with time. During the first weeks I got along with just taking Advil, but I know some took steroids.

It's important to blame the AN itself as much as possible.  ;)

ANs can certainly affect the balance nerve. Your AN may have already started affecting the nerve before treatment; radiation can take 6 months or more to knock out the tumor, so the AN can continue with its mischief for a while after treatment. Radiation often causes swelling of the AN, and that also can increase symptoms, before the AN dies off and eases up the pressure on nerves.

I would certainly discuss this with your doctors. A follow up MRI may help determine what is happening with the AN. It might all go away in another month, but then again, there could be some permanent damage to the balance nerve. I would follow up on it, and monitor it, and see if the doctors think some additional lab tests or physical therapy are needed to address the balance issue.

Hoping for the best. Steve

I had vertigo before my fsr treatments in 2005.  I still have what I call three types of vertigo.  Downright room spinning keep me in bed 1 week.  Or get up in the morning and the floor is moving lasts about 3 hours.  Then I have slight vertigo where I feel woozie.  I can't drive becuase just a turn of the head starts it.

Hello Kelda

I had GK in May, and got a really bad Vertigo in December. I could not work or do anything, it was terrible. For two weeks it was really bad, but then it got away step by step. After four weeks it was all gone.
Now I just get a bit dizzi when I move my head to fast up and down og side by side. I guess this will disappeare by time.
