Hi,

Pittsburgh is the oldest installation of Gamma in the US. This is where studies on the effect of Gamma come from. The oldest installation in NYC is at Columbia Presbyterian. The doctors are Dr. Isaackson (radiation specialist) and Dr. Sisti (neurosurgeon). When I spoke to Dr. Isaackson last year, he said he would have 10-year data out soon. Another installation of Gamma is at NYU. The neurosurgeon is Dr. Golfinos. He recommended against GK in my case, so I do not know who he works with, how many GK he has done and how long, etc. I hope this answers your question.

Right side AN (6x3x3 cm) removed in 1988 by Drs. Benjamin & Cohen at NYU (16 hrs); nerves involved III - XII.
Regrowth at the brainstem 2.5 cm removed by Dr.Shahinian in 4 hrs at SBI (hopefully, this time forever); nerves involved IV - X with VIII missing. No facial or swallowing issues.

Hi RockyB-

I just went through the process of finding treatment options and providers.  My only option turned out to be surgery, but Dr. Golfinos, who does my surgery on the 30th, is also the Director of the Gamma Knife Center at NYU.  Get a couple of opinionis - and definitley talk to the guys at Col. Pres, too.

You (and I) are fortunate to live so close to excellent medical providers who have experience with ANs.  '

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Rocky and welcome.... Based on many that I have heard speaking about the NYC area, Dr. Golfinos seems to be top notch for the area!  You also have Dr. Noren in Providence who is also tops in GK....

You may also find additional info in our "Radiation/Radiosurgery" forum here on the site....

Again, welcome and looking forward to your further participation.

I am in NC but have a contact that used Yale Medical and was very pleased. Dr DeLebratory(sp) was very helpful. I stayed in NC and went to Baptist Hospital (Wake Forest Medical) and I was very pleased. Great institution, wonderful staff.
Best wishes,

Michael
