« on: June 01, 2008, 07:48:57 pm »
When you have the gamma knife do you have to take prednisone after?  Considering this treatment, but prednisone gives me badddddddddddd depression episodes related to bipolar disorder.  Just wondering?  Nancy Drew

I had Gamma Knife in Dec 2006 at Wake Forest.  I did not have to take any medications afterward.  I had an uneventful recovery - no problems at all.  Good luck to you!!!
Diagnosed 7/06: AN - right side: 1.3cm in transverse dimension, 6mm in AP dimension, and 6mm in cephalocaudal dimension.
GK 12/06- Wake Forest Univ Baptist Med Ctr
MRI 5/07- Some necrosis;  Now SSD
MRI 12/08- AN size has reduced 50%
MRI 12/11- AN stable (unchanged from 12/08)
Next MRI: 12/16

I had Ck,not Gamma, was given Decadron, and 3mos.later am on it again, its has really helped.I don't believe prednisone is first choice for radiation induced swelling, maybe someone else could elaborate. Good Luck!
