Kathleen McCracken Update
« on: July 30, 2008, 09:04:35 pm »
I am so happy to report that Kathleen is out of surgery and her doctors are very pleased with the results!  Kathleen's husband, Marty, reports that the surgery lasted about 5 hours and that her doctors removed the entire tumor.  Although the surgery was more difficult than normal due to her previous radiation on the tumor, they had absolutely no negative feedback and anticipate a normal recovery.  Her doctors are also optimistic that the facial nerve is fully intact, and while only time will tell, they expect that she will not have any facial paralysis.

Kathleen has been moved into the ICU, where Marty will be able to visit her for about 10 minutes each hour.  He expects that she will be brought out of anesthesia for a short time to monitor her progress, but then will be heavily sedated for more rest and to alleviate her pain and dizziness.

Again, many thanks for your support - please keep it coming!  I hope to report more good news tomorrow-

Thanks Maggie! So far it sounds like the HEI protocal..from surgery to ICU for 24 hours.

Five hours is not that much longer than their typical surgery time at HEI and considering the doctor said hers was more difficult!

I look forward to future updates.

Maggie:

Please accept my thanks - and the thanks of many others - for relaying the good news about Kathleen's surgery outcome.  We're always  pleased whenever a member has AN surgery that is successful and complication-free.

When it becomes feasible, please be sure to let Kathleen know that her friends on the ANA website forums are rooting for her and very happy for her surgical results.  We look forward to seeing her post again, when that becomes possible.  Until then, we appreciate your efforts as Kathleen's secretary'.  :)

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Thank you for giving the "update" on Kathleen.  I want to say how pleased I am she came out of surgery with good success and that her doctors are hopeful for a full recovery!  This is indeed GOOD NEWS!  Many blessings to you Kathleen and may you have a quick, full and speedy recovery with no sign of tumor ever again!  Cheers!
