« on: August 15, 2008, 01:19:40 pm »
Hey guys, it is me again. I went to the optometrist yesterday and couldn't get my eye exam because that cornea has pits and i noticed yesterday that my left eye sees blurry! I got scared and she has gave e a treatment for ten days and hopefully get my eye exam. I was wandering if any of you use contact lenses? does it help to use those intead of regular glasses? please answer me asap, because she told me that it can probably be better to use contact lenses i just wanna make sure that it works for us with the dry eyes. PLEASE ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYE WET! DON'T BE SILLY LIKE I WAS PRETENDING MY EYE WAS GETTING BETTER AND DO NOT NEED THE EYE DROPS ANYMORE.... :-[

of all this AN fun .... balance , eye, and hearing ... I can say the biggest problem for me and most annoying are eye issues.... I guess I'm lucky that I don't have headaches ... but I cant leave the house without a bottle of drops... and I go into a panic when I do...

Contacts!! oh my god... I could not dream of wearing mine again ... I stopped wearing mine years ago because they were becoming more and more uncomfortable .. I never would of guessed it was because of a brain tumor! ....

I almost forgot...... I found a generic Laci-lube at target... works great for 6$ instead of the LaciLube 20$ .... keep your eye's lubed until your cornea gets better -- then you can go back to normal drops and clear visision...  ;D

Carlita:

Although I'm very sorry that your cornea has been damaged due to a lack of moisture, I appreciate your warning about keeping 'dry eyes' lubricated and not to allow denial to cause possible injury to something very necessary and irreplaceable.  I hope your cornea will recover with treatment.

Unfortunately, I have no information to offer regarding contact lenses because I've never worn them.  I'm sure other posters will have the information you seek.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

If you have Kaiser, you can buy a generic Lacrilube, called "puralube" for $3.25.  It's the same stuff.

As far as contacts go, I wouldn't even dream of wearing them either!  I did try them for a day or so and thought I would go crazy from the scratchiness.  I can feel my eye, but it doesn't tear on it's own, so the contacts felt like a log in my eye.

Others may have had different experiences...

Carlita, at the Bell's Palsy InfoSite, they have a page about eye care (http://www.bellspalsy.ws/eye.htm). Contact lenses are addressed at the bottom of the page. I believe there is a special hydrophilic lens for dry eye. I see my ophthalmologist next Wednesday and will try to remember to ask him.

After starting on Restasis and having a punctual plug, I wear contacts. I went to a contact lens specialist (who knew there was such a thing?!) and he prescribed a brand called Pro-Clear that stay moist longer on their own.

Prior to Restasis and the plug I was using lacrilube numerous times a day....now I never use it. I only use Blink for contacts when I wear them.

Carlita,
I had my surgery about 2 months ago. I just started to wear my contacts again last week. I found that if I put eye drops in before I put on my contacts that they're a little more comfotable and it seems like the eye stays moist a little longer. I still can't wear them for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time. I also have to make sure I still use eye drops when I'm wearing my contacts. I have found that after I take out my contacts that my eyes seem really dry and I find myself using drops more frequently. So maybe the contacts are helping to keep my eyes from drying out.
