Meagan -

hijacking this thread to say I hope your first meeting went well yesterday and that you had a good crowd.

Wish I could have made it; hopefully next time.

Meagan -

glad you had a good turn out  :)

I know of at least 3 people on this forum from our area that need to be put on the "mailing list" so they get meeting information.

I'll email you when I get back to town next week.

I hope the next meeting isn't too far off.

I am 34 year old male with 1.5cm AN in Chicago and meet with DR. Byrne at Rush.  Has anyone out there had surgery preformed by him or heard of him in dealing with AN?

Tsambo -

Rush is not known for treating ANs, so I have not heard of Dr. Byrne.

Experience in treating ANs is imperative; best places near Chicago to seek treatment are Loyola or Ear Institute of Chicago (www.chicagoear.com) which is affiliated with Northwestern University.

I know Loyola does surgery, but I'm not sure about radiation.  Chicago Ear does both surgery and radiation.

With an AN of 1.5 cm both treatment options should be open to you.

My surgery was done through Chicago Ear (Dr. Robert Battista) about 16 months ago and I had a very good experience and outcome.

If you'd like further information, please feel free to ask through this thread, or PM me.

I'd also like to recommend that you contact the ANA for their informational literature - if you haven't already - it's very helpful.

Hi Tony,

Like Jan, he is unfamiliar to me too. I would question Dr. Byrne relative to the number of surgeries he has performed on AN patients.  Question him relative to the number of types of surgery he has performed.  Some perform retrosigmoid more than middle fossa etc..  This is one time that you want to be a "garden variety".

I know of another colleague at work that went through Rush for another type of Schwannomma and used Dr. Cerullo, who in his own right is world renown.
