I think its our minds.........Knowing now that I have titanium mesh in there or a plate of some sort in there makes me sense tightness especially when I get out of bed on mornings.........I dunno, gotta put that question to my Dr.

Yes, I have the tight head thing.  Sometimes it's worse than others but for much of the time I feel like someone has put control top pantyhose on the right side of my head!  It's way down on my list of annoying things....

Yes, I also have that.  It's much better now than right after surgery though.  Right after surgery I kept thinking of myself as the man in the iron mask.  Well, half of a mask anyway.  It is one the least annoying things for me though.

Anne:

I had noticeable 'tightness' on the 'AN side' of my skull for some months after my surgery/radiation.  I asked my doctor about this and he said it was the healing process taking place, which made sense to me.  The 'tightness' eventually resolved after about a year and is practically non-existent at this point.  I don't know if this is typical as we all heal at a slightly different rate.  If the 'tightness' persists too long or becomes too bothersome, I would consult my doctor to see if this is normal and can be alleviated in any way.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

hello anne, yes, i do feel head tightness on my AN side, like the entire skin is stretched and eh.... dried out?  it finally went away at 6 mths.  As jim mentioned it is most likely your body healing, but check out with the doctor to play safe - hope this helps and good luck!

Like Jean, I felt like i had an iron mask on (the left side). it was one of the first things i remember when i woke from surgery. now 4 months out, my face feelings pretty normal (along not 'acting' normal yet). No "head" tightness though (that i can recall).
Left 2.9cm CP Angle AN discovered Jan 2008. Retrosig surgery June 2, 2008 Toronto, Canada. Facial paralysis and numbness, double vision (4th nerve), SSD. DV totally recovered in 4th month; palsy started to recover slowly around month 7. Had twin boys 13 months after surgery. Doing great.

I have it too.  When I asked about it the first few weeks after surgery the nurse told me I still had some swelling.  When it does it now I just figure I'm retaining some fluid or there is still a little swelling in there on occasion.

To me, it feels like someone is tightening laces on my head at the incision site.  I'm 4 months postop - it seems to be lessening as time goes on.
