Lasik prior to treatment recommended!
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:09:10 am »
One of the things that I researched prior to surgery were how to deal with the potential deficits.  I was extremely nearsighted and couldn't deal with the thought of not being able to wear contacts.  I went and had Lasik prior to surgery and was extremely pleased.  It gave me comfort going into my AN surgery that I could deal with the loss of any new sensations, knowing that I just gained a huge improvement in my vision without contacts or glasses.  The only limitation my opthmalogist gave was that he preferred that I didn't have AN surgery for at least 4 weeks after Lasik, and to make sure that when I was in for AN that my eyes did not dry out (that meant having the MD order drops every 4 hours).

What a great idea...however, I'm not sure my docs would let me do it.  Maybe before since they don't know for sure what your outcome will be.  They won't let me get lasik on my "good" eye now because I don't really see out of the one on the AN side and so "IF" something were to go wrong, I wouldn't have ANY usable vision!  Oh well, there are much worse things!   ;D
