Is a trigeminal neuroma detected the same way an AN is via MRI?
This is the first I heard of it.
Pre AN diagnos9s, I complained of Tn like pain.
I'm guessing that that was ruled out.
Just curious.

I do not have a trigeminal neuroma but do experience trigeminal nerve pain. Mine is 8th and 5th nerve damage due to An encroaching on them thus damaging these nerves. The pain is horrible but generally only momentary for me. I was recently treated for the pain at the ER as I was unable to quiet it.....relieve it...even with pain meds and other "home" remedies.  This was the the first time I had to take such drastic action. More often it is just an aching in the area from the area where the mandibular and trigeminal come together in front of the left ear and extend down the jaw. This feels not unlike toothache on the upper jawline....involving teeth, sinus passages, tongue etc. My teeth on upper left side are implants.....thus no nerves there yet I experience "toothache" symptoms.....sinus infection symptoms.....ear ache/pain that are annoying and sometimes dibilitating. Having had sinus xrays found to be clear it is frustrating to attempt to keep symptoms at bay. My An was treated almost 4 years ago with Ck at Stanford and is now considered dead by my physician Dr. John Adler. Hope some of this was helpful...............Judy

Judy,
Your symptoms sound just like mine.
The only difference is nobody will come forth and associate it with the tumor or the surgery.
I was told by my MD that they fought like dogs to get the tumor out around a sticky facial nerve.
When I last saw him, he did not hint, imply or provide any correlation to the surgery.
He actually felt that since it did not occur immediately after the surgery that it was not associated with
the an at all.

???????????????????????????????????????????????
That is my response.

The other mystery is that it does float from right to left.  There is no pattern but I experience it on both sides but not at the same time.
Does anyone else have an answer about this mystery.
Ironically, my doc did give me a script to have my trig nerve magnified via MRI.  Maybe the result will change him initial opinion.
I don't know.
