Interpretation of ABR results
« on: April 23, 2005, 12:57:37 pm »
Hi Everyone

I have unilateral hearing loss (right ear) and have had two hearing tests and ABR, and just had an MRI last week (waiting for the restults).

The ABR was had the following results (abnormal):

1.  Right click threshold impairment.
2.  Right side wave amplitutde reduced.
3.  Right absolute latences are within normal limits--Wave I not identifiable.
4.  Interaural Wave V difference 0.45 ms--abnormal.

I am being ruled out for what is causing the hearing loss and am rather anxious, to say the least.
My click threshold was Left:  10 dB  and Right:  40 dB.

Any feedback would be appreciated.  I have an appointment for a hearing aide on Monday.
Note:  I do medical transcription from home as my profession and really want to get any info possible.  Thanks everyone!

 ;)

Hi
I can understand your anxiety with the abnormal ABR and hearing loss. I had same and it was discovered I was harboring a 1.5 cm AN attached to the auditory nerve and wrapped around the facial nerve. Seems prudent to wait for the MRI results before actually purchasing a hearing aid. You may find it will not be what you need, so,  a trial period is good.
