Surgery Scheduled
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:53:12 pm »
All,

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations and kind words. I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago with a 1.9cm AN on my left side. I met with several doctors this week and decided to go with Dr. Gantz at the University of Iowa. I have a Middle Fossa surgery scheduled for May 14th.

Take Care,

Ron

Hi Ron,

You've gotten over one of the toughest hurdles in your AN journey.  Deciding on the course to take as well as surgeon to use just tore me up for months.  Everyone here was wonderful in helping me through that tough time.  At least you don't have too long to wait until your surgery is performed.  That's one of the other tough parts. :)

I'll keep you in my prayers,

Ernie
-1.3 X 0.8 cm AN in the right cerebellopontine angle extending into the internal auditory canal.

Good Luck Ron.  Definitely one of the biggest hurdles...getting over that decision. I hope I'm as lucky as you are in getting my surgery scheduled so quickly. Now that i know it has to come out I want it done and over with.

Ron -

you're definitely in good hands.  Cheryl R had her surgeries with Dr. Gantz and has told me that the University of Iowa is top-notch.

Good luck on the 14th!

Hi Ron,

I put you on the AN Calendar. You should make it onto the weekly update on Sunday, so we can all wish you the best on your special day. :)

8 mm left AN June 2007,  CK at Stanford Sept 2007.
Hearing lasted a while, but left side is deaf now.
Right side is weak too. Life is quiet.

Ron:

The hardest decision is done.  I wish you a very successful surgery on May 14thh.  You'll be in my prayers and those of many others.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi,
Good luck with you surgery! I'm still waiting and it has been a terrible loooong time to wait - since November 2008.  :-[ I had a 1,6 cm AN in my right ear and was promised that i would get a date for surgery in February-March 2009, but now we're in May and no sight of any surgery date yet.  :'( Last week the coordinator told me that they were waiting for a monitor that should take care of the vestibular nerve during surgery.

Still hoping for the best!

Best wishes from Helene in Sweden
AN found in February, 2006, size 0,8 cm
Surgery 20th May, 2009, retrosigmoid approach
SSD and balance issues
Forever grateful to Dr Siesjo and Dr Kahlon, University Hospital of Lund, Sweden
Two AN:s found 1st March, 2016
Waiting for GK

Hi. Glad you made your decision. Dr. Gantz is great. You'll be a postie before you know it!

Good luck next week. You'll have a lot of people thinking about you.
