What do you do if you need the medical insurance plan from your new employer? ?

Scarlett ~

The reality is that most group health plan's enrollment forms will ask about your medical history, especially surgeries and/or hospitalization.  Of course, if no one asks about past surgeries you can simply keep it to yourself.  I'm not an expert but I assume that every group medial insurance plan has slightly differing forms and criteria. Some may not ask about surgeries.  However, to not list the surgery when specifically asked (on a form) would constitute fraud.  All you can do at that point is to reassure the HR people - and the interviewer (the principal, in Tim's case) that the tumor was benign - not cancerous - and that you're fine, now.  After that, if the prospective employer decides to hold this against you (but finds another, legitimate reason for not hiring you, of course) it is out of your control.  At least your integrity would be intact, even as you start signing up for food stamps.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

I am not a very private person and did tell my employer when I was applying for a job. I am very capable of doing the job (teach kindergarten) so wasn't worried. I was exhausted at first and I found my employer very understanding when I needed to take a day off for an MRI or an appointment. It but works for me doesn't always work for everyone. I had facial paralysis so really there was no hiding it, still I would have told that's just me.
I don't have a problem taking about my experiences in hopes that others can learn from it. I went misdiagnosed for 10 years.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do, it will be right for you.

All very good advice that I will be using as well as I start my new job search. My current employer just announced they are packing up and moving to Mexico! :(
