You all just warm me up like a soft blanket (and that feels really good this morning in Ohio!!!). My incision is now completely sealed up, not a sign of nastiness, and there seems to be some hair trying to grow on the spot that has seen so much misery with infection and surgeries and debriding. In two days, count 'em "2", I can toss out the baby shampoo and use my own hair care products - not that I'm counting or anything - since January 10, I have only used my own products for about 4 months out of the year - the rest of the time, I've been battling this lousy infection, prepping for surgery, or recovering from surgery and have been relegated to using only baby shampoo. I am so excited!!!!!
So, for the next 2 weeks, I am trying to schedule every routine, followup, or necessary doctor's appts while I'm still off. My 6-month MRI (a little past 6 months due to my fixation on infections) is Tuesday - a bit nervous!!
AND - here's some words of advice for all....... I requested to have written records of all of my procedures, imaging reports, and referral info. Last May ('09), when I thought I was done with all of this, I was reading some of the reports and stumbled upon the original MRI report that initially found the AN (this MRI was done in Oct 08). The first 2 pages were devoted to the AN which, of course, caught everyone's attention. But on page 3, there were 2 paragraphs devoted to "evidence of subclavian arterial stenosis, both sides" that even I knew had nothing to do with the AN. When I asked my family doctor about this, he stammered and stuttered and then claimed he never got a copy of the report (which I don't believe) and referred me to a vascular surgeon. Yesterday, I had a test that involved 3 blood pressure cuffs on each arm, exercise, and pre-post exercise measuring of how long it takes my pulse to be heard at my wrist and upper arm when the cuffs are squeezed (my apologies to all of you who have medical expertise....that's my layman's explaination!!!). Anyway, apparently there is a blockage on each side and I followup with the vascular guy next week. That really irritates me - IF I hadn't asked for my written records, and IF I hadn't read them, and IF I hadn't asked questions, this would never have been addressed at all.
MORAL - we must be vigilent, persistent, inquisitive, and relentless when it comes to our own health and well-being. Don't trust that the health system will work as it should and that all diagnostic reports will be read and proper actions taken.
I am not concerned about the remedy for this particular medical issue tossed my way - there seems to be options to deal with it that don't sound too hideous. But anyway, I just wanted to share this with you and to give you all a gentle reminder to make sure you are doing everything you can to help your medical professionals do what needs to be done for you. WE ARE WORTH THE EFFORT!!!!!
Have a great weekend all!!! Love you bunches!!!
