Thanks Dr. Phyl and Beanie!  Everything is going to be just fine...healing from the second procedure to remove the weight is going good thus far and I was actually able to attend a business lunch today without making a huge mess down the front of my shirt...hooray...I'm full, life is good!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009:  I’m still able to close my left eye.  I really don’t know yet if my nerves are starting to wake back up or not, all I know is I can close my left eye.  I can still only close it when I do it with the right, but it closes all the same.  Been sitting here at the kitchen table all morning trolling the internet on my MacBook, no patch, wearing my new prescription glasses that arrived yesterday, the left lens frosted to help combat double vision.  They’re working out nicely, I just have to get used to using the progressive lens--first time with this setup.  I saved a full 50% off of what Lens Crafters wanted for the same frames / prescription.  Found a San Francisco based company and ordered them on the web.  The glasses arrived within a week of ordering them for a $113.00 which included First Class postage.  Lens Crafters was $215.00 before taxes.

TP - The Eye Surgeon said there is a procedure possible to center my eye again but my Neuro Surgeon is saying to wait because just like I'm regaining eye lid function, very slowly, they say I'll also regain control over the eyeball itself.  Right now its pointed up and toward the bridge of my nose and causes the double vision; I've had it since I got out of surgery.  Sometimes, like this morning while I was cleaning my eye, it almost looked like the eyeball was a little more to the center; not sure...time will tell.  Meanwhile the frosted lens on my new glasses lets me go without a patch on my eye and cuts way down on the double vision, but doesn't totally eliminate it.  It turns out I was just a touch far sighted so these glasses serve me in a number of ways; they're my reading glasses too!

Looks like it will be Jan 16th or 23rd...waiting til after the holidays.  I'll post something out here about it in Dec and you will receive an official invite in the mail (assuming you've joined the ANA).  Thought about maybe seeing if some of us would like to get together for lunch first of Dec maybe...we'll see.  What do you think?  (But, I'll start a different thread about that later...in case Phyl is watching this one and mentions that we're getting off topic )

Doc, when I woke up from my AN surgery, the first thing I noticed was I saw a lot of people standing around me. Had no idea I would have double vision. My eye turned towards my nose. I waited for about a year before I saw a specialist at Shands of Gainesville. She gave me a PRISM to wear which allowed me to remove the ugly black tape from my eye glasses. It was a stick on PRISM for my eye glasses. She wanted me to wait a few more months before she would schedule surgery to correct my double vision. Unfortunately for me my double vision did not improve and I had to have eye surgery. I hope your eye will improve on its own but if it doesn't I will be happy to share with you the process  if you ever have to have eye surgery. My Dr was wonderful but I must tell you it was a most unusual surgery, two day process. Thank the good Lord, it worked and I look normal.

Hi TP,

I've already been told getting a Prism isn't an option for me right now, it would have to be so thick / large to be effective, it isn't practical.  Meanwhile, rather than black tape on my glasses, we've discovered ordinary shelving contact paper frosts the left lens sufficiently enough to counter the double vision; and isn't as conspicuous as black electrical tape.  The problem I'm having however, I still have to work at blinking or closing my eye so allowing the eye to come in constant contact with moving air is actually painful; irritating at best.

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to be patient...isn't that what we do?!?
