Anissa,
Like the others have mentioned, try not to worry.   Doctors are not always right with their first guess.  I took my nephew to a colonoscopy appointment, after his doctor said they detected a large mass during a prostate exam.  Everything was completely normal.  I suggested to my nephew that he may want to find a new doctor, 'cause this one didn't know #&^% from shinola  ;)
I'm obviously not a doctor, but I don't see how a colon polyp could cause blood in the urine.
  Wishing you the best.
Regards,

I am also confused over why the dr wants a colonoscopy first as even a GI problem would possibly give rectal bleeding but am not sure why blood in the urine.        Some more kidney testing and maybe seeing an urologist might be of help.      Did you have an ultrasound to show the gall stones?        I would think a CT scan would be more of a possiblity to see what a problem could be and colonscopy later if nothing is showing up.    A higher up GI problem wouldn't show in the colonscopy.                  Just my opinion from a now retired nurse.
I am having a colonoscopy a week from today and not excited but is just the age related time to get checked.

I talked to the doc this morning.  He won't have the final results until tomorrow morning but what he did have showed there was a lot less blood this time than last.  Yesterday he felt like there was something wrong in the kidneys and that would be seen from a scope?  I don't know anything and feel so helpless here!

I had an u/s in August that showed the gall stones, he didn't seem concerned about that at all.  The thing that did concern him was the fact that there is little to no puss in the blood.   ???  To me that means that something is just all out bleeding without infection right?

My doc is a country doc and fixes everything from skinned knees to delivering babies.  I'll go this round with him then hopefully he'll refer me to a specialist.

Thank you all for your support here.  I haven't talked to any family or friends IRL so having you all here for me/us is really a treasure.   :-*

Sorry you're having to wait for results, Anissa.  Do try to assume the best rather than the worst, despite what the doc may say...not easy, I know.  Will be watching to see what you find out.

tmi = too much information

Thanks and you're right.  I'm feeling much better about it today.  God is so good to give peace and hope.  Until tomorrow then...

I'm not a doctor, but I don't understand how yours could travel (at sonic speed) from a bladder infection to colon cancer!  I mean, c'mon, their two different highways!

Mom has had a UTI for the past four years.  (She's on suppressive therapy; Macrodatin daily.)  She's always asymptomatic-no burning sensation.  And then there's that odor.  It's only when it gets bad and ugly (bladder/kidney infection) is there blood in her urine and she gets back pain.  I remember when she was in the hospital (brain swelling from the GK) that her Gucci/Foley bag was a really bad color-like brown.  And I know you're thinking all bad thoughts, but when you have an infection, your count does go up.

Who the hell are these doctors who give out bad news without all the lab results in their hands???

I keep thinking about it too.  He said the only things that caused bleeding like that was polyps and cancer but he didn't say that I had one or the other.  I don't think he intended to scare me (which he did anyway).  He said that a kidney stone (which I also have but in a place where it won't pass) would produce only a quarter of the blood that I was passing at the most.  He is not a specialist, but a country doc, GP.

Ok, lots of water, no white foods, got it :)  Does that mean I have to skip my egg nog tonight?   :-[  ;D  Maybe if I put enough rum in it, it won't be a white food anymore, ha ha  j/k

Anissa -

you should definitely listen to Donnalynn; skip the egg nog and just have the rum  ;)

Hope the doc has positive news tomorrow.  Please keep us posted.

Oh Anissa.

Just saw this now.  Huge (hugs) of strength while you sort through all of this.  Hope they get to the bottom of it with a somewhat simple explanation soon.

Anissa,

This was my first chance to check back to see what your doc had to say.  Sorry he had no real news for you today, I'm sure you're on pins and needles.  I have to agree that it sounds like he's made quite a leap in his diagnostic guesses and I would say, don't worry until you know there is really something to worry about.  Easier said than done, I know.  Hopefully, your doc will be able to provide a fuller picture tomorrow.  Please keep us posted.

Anissa .....

Missed your post until just now ..... so sorry.  First reaction is "what in the world is a doctor giving you his idea of a worst case scenario before he even has test results?"  I worked for a family practice doctor (who was also a very good friend) for ten years when my children were small.  I always admired him because he never let a patient go out of the office without hope ..... and always gave the positive statistics, not all of the negative.  This is so troubling that he is causing you to worry excessively before the facts are all known.

Hang in there ..... I know there have to be other explanations for your symptoms.

Thoughts and prayers.

Well, just shoot me ;).  I talked to the doc this morning, blood count was low, consistent with the kidney stone.   ??? ???  From cancer to a kidney stone?  I'm so irritated right now.  He is referring me to a surgeon for the gall bladder problem and I'll get a referral from him to a urologist for the blood/kidney stone issue.  Hopefully thats it and we can all move on.  I feel like I've been through the ringer.  I need another egg nog.  ;)

Anissa, 8 months post-op, I experienced the same thing you did and learned that there are a lot of things that can cause blood to appear in urine.  When I was first referred to a urologist, he told me that they might never be able to determine the cause, so don't panic.  I would recommend you see a specialist.  I had several other tests beyond a scope.  You can pm me if you'd like.
