Ilse,
Prices will vary among different audiologists, however mine told me that TransEar was about $2,800. Coverage by insurance really is going to vary amongst the particular plan that you're on (if it's covered at all). For example, the plan I'm on will cover hearing aids for up to $1,000 benefit every 36 months. So, net cost of the TransEar will be approximately $1,800. Other plans have different coverages for hearing aids (if they cover them at all). I suggest that you contact your insurance company and ask them what they cover for hearing aids.
Or, better yet, you could get your audiologist to pre-certify exactly what you would need for TransEar. That will give you the exact amount you would owe if you were to get TransEar. Many audiologists also offer a Financing deal to help pay for it over time. For example, one audiologists I talked to used Citi Healthcard which provided 1 year of no interest financing.
So, to answer your questions succinctly, it all depends.
If interested in BAHA (which some are and some not), the price is generally higher BUT many insurance companies will cover the BAHA as an "implant" rather than a "hearing aid" and therefore cover much more of the cost. Again, have your doctor pre-certify the charges to get a break-down of what you'd have to pay if you go that route.
Regards,
Brian
