Post-Radiation Symptoms, Ayurvedic Medicine etc.
« on: January 15, 2010, 09:35:48 am »
Please read the third paragraph if the following appears just ordinary. I am approaching 6 months post CK treatments; the healing journey has been interesting with recurring, transient symptoms less frequent now. Fatigue, headaches and balance issues were thwarting my ability to exercise. During this time, non-associated AN ailments required medical attention too while mild situational depression and soothing comfort foods were sought. Two weeks ago, I had had ENOUGH and began a conscious pursuit to be aware of everything that I ingest, began walking to build endurance and ultimately not be affected by this tumor in my head. Now some self-observations to share:

During yoga or when my cranium rests on the floor or a hard surface, my skull's weight induces a headache. During and after exercise, I notice balance issues but unlike months ago when fatigue dominated, my activities are no longer thwarted. I now anticipate this possibility. Wonky head or mind fog comes about from time to time; when ambient noise is present, hearing deficiency remains a nuisance. As other AN colleagues indicate from their own journeys (though I lack the virtue of patience), I think the worst is behind me. In February I have another hearing test, then in early March see my docs in Boston for the 6 months post-treatment follow-up after an MRI. I did not anticipate the long post-radiation healing road but never second-guessed my choice for CK treatment. I'll report on my doctors' visit but now for a new and interesting finding.

My two thumbnails each have a transverse groove; not a problem but strange as I never noticed this until recently. My wife who is a holistic and alternative medicine investigator pulled off of her bookshelf a primer on AYURVEDIC diagnoses having a chapter on fingernails with illustrations. One showed this transverse groove. Each finger corresponds with an organ; the thumb associates   with the BRAIN. This amazed me, so I'm sharing this information. Look at your thumbnails for a groove. Eastern medicine can be enlightening.

Very interesting because I have a groove on my right thumb nail and my facial neuroma is on the left side.  When I think about it I have had the groove for almost a decade.

Hmmm, does the groove go away if they got the whole tumor? (mine was)
I don't see one on either thumb nail ???

Believe it or not, even this topic has come up before. :)

This is from Tumbleweed, on creases in the thumbnail:
