Need Plastic Surgeon in Texas
« on: January 18, 2010, 04:32:33 pm »
I have had 2 AN's, the first being in 1982.  That is the one that caused my paralysis of the right side of my face.  I have had a Hypoglossal Anastomosis in 1985 with good results.  I am now 50 years old and I find as the years go by that my upper lip pulls more and more to the left (non paralyzed) side.  I am interested in finding a skilled facial plastic surgeon that can remove or smooth out my Philtrum.  That is the dimpled space between the nose and the upper lip.  If it weren't for my Philtrum being crooked you wouldn't be able to tell there is anything wrong with my face when I sit and rest.  I live near Dallas Texas and any help, thoughts or ideas on this issue will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks so much!  I'm all smiles inside!  :-)  Cindy

Hi Cindy!  I am in Texas too but at the top.  I went a couple of years ago to Johns-Hopkins to Dr. Patrick Byrne for the T3 - he is an AMAZING man and plastic surgeon.  I would recommend him in a heartbeat but I know that it a bit of a ways to go; however, obviously, he has experience with faces that have been paralyzed as opposed to just "fluff"!  I actually had a few complications (no fault of his - I seem to always have to be different!  ::)) and I went to a good friend & colleague of his in Houston...his name was Dr. Brisset.  I really liked him too - he was a great guy and does a LOT of medical mission work, which IMO says a lot about a person!  I don't know if he has worked as extensively with "paralyzation" issues, though.  I'd give them a call and see.  Also, "crookedsmile" on here is traveling to a Dr. in Austin - I'm not sure what all he is doing, but I think that has something to do with her eye - you might want to to do a search for her and send her a PM.  I would be more than happy to chat with you about this if you'd like - just PM me!

Hi.
My doctor's name is Tanuj Nakra. He is a transplant from Beverly Hills, CA and moved to Austin, TX last year. He does facial surgery only. I am traveling 8.5 hours away to see him as Arkansas has no specialist that I can see. He also spends most of his summers doing "free work" in Guatamala.......missions. It means alot to me also that he would touch people's lives who otherwise would not have the money for treatment. I leave at 5am tomorrow morning and will be there by 3pm for my preop and surgery on Wed. morning. I am in complete peace knowing that I have a good doctor this time. I am having a lateral tarsal strip to lift the droopy eye BUT he does forehead lifts, cheek lifts, lip work, etc. Anything having to do with the face. Alot of reconstructive work instead of just "fluff" stuff as Kay put it.
If I can be of any assistance please feel free to email me. I'm also on Facebook if you'd like to talk there. Don't let anyone make you feel bad or guilty for wanting face work done...........you've been through alot and anything that can make you feel better..............then DO IT!

He is with a group of about 5 doctors and they have their own ambulatory surgery center. If need be then they can do your surgery at Seton Hospital.
