Have fun at camp, Soundy.

I got up and went to the gym for cardio and abs this morning, and followed up with 2.5 hours of yard work. I think I'm done for today.

Thanks everyone for the athletic posts. Really helps to motivate me, especially the outdoor posts. Planning a camping trip to the Outer Banks soon. Thank goodness for a/c in the camper. I cannot believe I used to tent camp in this weather. See what getting older does to you. It makes you wiser. Why sweat when you can relax and enjoy the cool breeze of the a/c while sitting next to the ocean. (about 100yds away). Actually the a/c is best for sleeping. Keep sharing the stories, I enjoy hearing about the places you go and the things you do. AN will not win over my life.

I went to the gym once last week - okay, not enough, but it was something.

I also biked one evening and just came in from digging up some dirt to plant gourds, cucumbers, and zucchini.  Does gardening count?

I'm toying with the idea of making an exercise commitment.  Over a year ago I set a goal of running a 5K for my 50th birthday - in September - and then I promptly forgot about it  ::)

I've never run a race and I'm thinking I should recommit.  Anyone know where I can get some good training tips?

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

A big welcome to skipg.

Jan, try this site: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml - it has a training program called "Couch to 5K" and lots of other info, including training tips. Also, my gym belongs to the Fitlinxx program. One of its features is the ability to log in exercise done outside the gym. Gardening is listed in the cardio activities, so yes, I would say it counts.

FitLinxx is an activity tracking and motivation system that our YMCA belongs to. It keeps track of cardio and weightlifting activity. Users earn 5 points for each cardio minute, and ten points plus one point for every 100 pounds lifted on each weight machine. You can also go online to enter activity done outside the gym and it will credit the points per minute and calculate calories burned based on body weight and intensity level.

At my YMCA, there are four levels (bronze, silver, gold and platinum) based on accumulated points. They award a free tee shirt for achieving each level. FitLinxx can be a great motivator, but sometimes it can backfire. For instance, if a machine's connection is down sometimes people will skip it because the points don't get counted. (My philosophy is that my body gives me credit even if FitLinxx doesn't.)

There is a kiosk at the gym to sign in and out - when I reached platinum today there was a big fireworks display and a congratulations ribbon on the screen. I tried to get a photo on my phone to post here but it didn't turn out.

ugh...I just wrote a very long reply, but lost it somehow before I could hit reply :P  Got a new computer the other day , a laptop, and I'm still trying to get used to it...anyway don't have time to try to rewrite it all now, but wanted to say how good it is to see everyone continuing to do so well and letting us know about it!  Will try to get back later today to write more...

I will at least say a welcome to Skip - Welcome, Skip!
