FitLinxx is an activity tracking and motivation system that our YMCA belongs to. It keeps track of cardio and weightlifting activity. Users earn 5 points for each cardio minute, and ten points plus one point for every 100 pounds lifted on each weight machine. You can also go online to enter activity done outside the gym and it will credit the points per minute and calculate calories burned based on body weight and intensity level.
At my YMCA, there are four levels (bronze, silver, gold and platinum) based on accumulated points. They award a free tee shirt for achieving each level. FitLinxx can be a great motivator, but sometimes it can backfire. For instance, if a machine's connection is down sometimes people will skip it because the points don't get counted. (My philosophy is that my body gives me credit even if FitLinxx doesn't.)
There is a kiosk at the gym to sign in and out - when I reached platinum today there was a big fireworks display and a congratulations ribbon on the screen. I tried to get a photo on my phone to post here but it didn't turn out.
