BP 100 - feedback manager
« on: January 25, 2010, 06:09:20 am »
Sfra22 informed us that she had a lot of feedback issues with my BP100 at first. She attributed some of the problems to the fact that the BP100 is a brand new product and that the audiologists didn't have enough experience to know how to deal with them. Finally she met with a Cochlear rep whereby it was determined that what worked best for her was to have the "feedback manager" turned off.

However my audiologist tells me that the feedback manager reduces feedback sounds and when turned off feedback problems will increase substantially?

What is correct?
Thanks for your reaction!

Hi Muizen

What's important to remember is that the BP100 can be programmed for the individual user. I work in a noisy environment (music store) where I am exposed to all kinds of alarms and "beeps".

It was explained to me that when my BP100 "hears" these tones, it reacts to them (feedback) because it thinks it IS feedback. Having the feedback manager turned off resolved this issue for me 100%.  I was going mad hearing second "beeps" every time I heard an alarm. I hated wearing the BAHA until we found the solution.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Muizen -

what is correct is whatever works best for you.

It may take some experimenting with the help of your audiologist, but I'm sure in the end your BP100 will work just fine.

Good luck,

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

Thanks for your reply, although my questions: "However my audiologist tells me that the feedback manager reduces feedback sounds and when turned off feedback problems will increase substantially?" remained unanswered. Who knows the answer?

Muizen -

my points was whatever works for you is correct.  As Lisa said, turning off the feedback manager works best for her - probably due to the environment she works in.

Your environment might be totally different from hers, so if turning off the feedback manager doesn't work, turn it on and see if that does the trick.
