AN Growing
« on: February 24, 2010, 02:16:30 pm »
Does anyone have information on UCSF?  My doctor wanted me to go to Stanford but my good old insurance wants me to go to Dr Cheung at UCSF. After 1 1/2 years of wait and see the little thing has started growing.   I have lost the hearing in my left ear and the AN is on my right ear.  The option that best fits my situation is CK but I want it done where I will get the best results.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

TJ,

I did a search on the forum for "Cheung" and didn't find anything... However, I did a search of "UCSF" and got several hits (some fairly recent and some not)..  I suggest starting with that search and going from there..  I don't personally any of the doctors at UCSF, so I can't comment one way or the other...

Good luck!

Regards,
Brian

Info on the Cyberknife program at UCSF is here:
   http://www.ucsfhealth.org/adult/special/c/20676.html

Information on Steven W. Cheung, M.D, a neurotologist at UCSF, who lists acoustic neuromas as a speciality, is here:
  http://www.ucsfhealth.org/adult/cgi-bin/prd.cgi?action=DISPLAYDOCTOR&doctorid=187

A good place to track down Cyberknife programs is the Locations page at the Cyberknife website:

Thank you to both for the information you provided.  I really wanted to go to Stanford and see Dr. Jackler.  So with a few phone calls back and forth I was able to convince my healthplan to let me go to him.  My appointment is mid March.  Don't know what he will suggest to do for now as the AN is now at 7mm.

Thank again for the responses, I know this group really supports all.

Hi TJ

Since the growth is still deemed "small" at 7mm, hang in there.... Stanford is where CK was "born", Jackler/Chang, etc there are terrific and if you do decide on CK, one of the best of the best to go for CK.  Many on these forums that have traveled to Stanford, even from out of the country, to have CK there...

Good luck with the decision process... hang in there... we're here to help.
