My BP100
« on: March 11, 2010, 09:58:16 pm »
Got the call this morning that my BP100 has finally arrived  ;D

When I ordered it, no one told me that Cochlear is currently taking 6 - 8 weeks to fill orders.  While that isn't a problem for those who just got the implant and have to wait 90 days to attach their device, it's a real bummer for those upgrading, like me  :(

I have a programming appointment with the audiologist on April 6th - which seems like an eternity now, but was the only day I could reasonably take time off of work.

I'm hopeful that I'll love the BP100 just as much as I love my Divino and I'm especially looking forward to using my MP3 adapter.  It's supposed to work very well.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

I'm glad you are finally getting it , Jan. I know you have been eagerly anticipating the upgrade for some time.

I almost asked why you didn't just use your MP3 hookup on the other thread, but realized that you weren't able to yet.

Jan,

I'm so happy for you.   >:(  Oh, and a little jealous.

I'm almost hoping when I go to find out what's wrong with my Divino at the end of the month, they tell me they can't fix it and order me a BP100 as a replacement.  Just in case that doesn't happen, I'm not planning on running it over with my car or anything.

Jan getting her head upgraded?  Hmmmm...always thought I'd be reading she was finally getting it examined!   ;D

When my audiologist recommended I wait for the BP100 (after my florida vacation), I mentioned to her that I heard there was a back log...she is able to get them within 3 weeks of ordering them...Maybe because its not a prefered method of hearing here in Ontario (the BAHA),?????

Getting my head upgraded  ???  :D

I have to honestly say that I'm a little nervous about upgrading.  On one hand, the BP100 has capabilities that go far beyond the Divino, but on the other hand, I love my Divino and I'm a little concerned about all the programming issues that people have talked about with the BP100.

Guess I'll just try to stay cautiously optimistic and see what happens.

Jo -

I didn't know that an order backup existed until I told my audiologist that I was ready to pay for the BP100 and she told me I should wait until I actually had it in hand.  When I asked how long that would be, she said she'd call me - that they were taking 6 - 8 weeks to arrive.

O.K.  I am still waiting to hear from my insurance in regards to the BAHA or  like Brian waiting on that rich uncle {that of course I don't have  ;)}      BUT, in my research I have seen the MP3 adapter and still don't get it.    I love my MP3, but really haven't used it much at all since my SSD 4 months ago.    Can you guys elaborate on that for me a bit better?

THANKS

HI Denise
Not that i have seen the device(MP3 adapter) but my guess is, it attaches to the BAHA...actually, I know it attaches to the BAHA as there is a plug in for it...so I'm guess the sound is sent to the good ear.   Someone will correct me if I\m wrong.

The sound is not sent to the good ear.  The MP3 adapter attaches directly to the BAHA device - no need for an ear plug as far as I can tell.  I haven't been able to use it yet, because the one I have attaches to the BP100 and I'm still wearing the Divino.

Denise -

there is a single, cheap solution to using your MP3 player and getting stereo sound while being SSD.  Post op I purchased what is called a mono-plug adapter and a single ear bud from Radio Shack (costs about $10).  The adapter plugs into the "port" at the top of my iPod and then the single ear bud attaches to it.  The adapter takes the stereo sounds that you'd normally hear in both of your ears and converts it to a single (mono) source.  It really works well.

Jan, may I ask a question about the MP3 adapter. Does it take both left and right channels (is that the right word?) from the MP3 player to the BAHA processor so that your hearing ear is free to hear other ambient sound? It seems like that would be a distinct advantage over the mono plug adapter or single ear bud.

Good question, Sara.

The MP3 adapter doesn't come in left and right sides - but the BAHA devices do.  For example, when I ordered both my Divino and my BP100, I had to tell the audiologist that I was deaf left.  I'm not really sure why this makes a difference, but it does.
