Marching in place, eyes closed Test
« on: April 08, 2010, 08:31:46 am »
I'd love to hear the results of everyone's test.  I did this test yesterday but I will have further tests on my balance in two weeks.

My tumor is on my left side and after marching for 60 seconds, I move forward slightly and turned about 45 degrees to the right.

Pre-op, I turned completely around.  I thought I was in some trick room where the floor rotated!

Hi Jenn .......  ah, you bring back memories!

With my right-side AN, I did similar (45 degrees) to you back in 2004 .... but for the life of me, I can't remember which direction I turned.

I did that test three weeks ago.  I ended up all the way across the room.  My wife said the doctor just kept backing up to get out of my way.

I did that test a few months ago (I'm having surgery May19th) and was suprised that I had moved at all. My tumor is on the right side and although it felt like I was marching in place, I turned to the right.

It will be five years in July since I had trans lab.  I still can't march in place with my eyes closed.  The funny thing is...I couldn't do it when I was ten years old either!  My grade school p.e. teacher said, "Only very creative people can't march in place with their eyes closed."  I loved her for that.  Every time I try that exercise and fail, I remember her words and smile.

Tumour is on the right. I turned 45 degrees to the left. So it seems that most of us tend to move to the opposite direction? Does this mean that the other side is trying to take over  ???

My PT had me do this as part of my vestibular rehab.  I was just as likely to turn right as left though.  My AN was on the right -- I just tried it before commenting and turned to the right but my balance has been particularly bad for the last couple of months--- hmmm.

I gave it a try. I turned a bit more than 90 degrees left. I was surprised. I also had to regain my balance a couple times. Did it one more time and turned about 45 degrees left. And had moved about 3 feet to thr right of where I started. I also had to stop once and get the balance back.

In the beginning of my post op rehab i would go right and left and sometimes 4 feet from where i began. I did it a few weeks ago and ended up slightly to my left but within a foot of where i began. But I still can't close my eyes with my feet together without falling over. :)

What fun!  At 20 seconds, I started to get nervous.  I was by myself, so couldn't tell if I was moving/where I was going.  I tried hard to stay facing same direction  At 40 seconds, I bumped into the couch.  I had moved about 6 feet straight forward!  I did better than I thought - at least I stayed straight!
