Hello Madison,

Calm down, it's ok, as Tinnitis affects people who don't have Acoustic Neuromas also. My husband for example does not have any tumors, but has Tinnitis in both ears, from the shooting range and loud music. I have it only on the side of my AN. best make sure that you do mention this to your doctor though as a precaution.
Blessings,
Jackie in Oregon

Diagnosed 02/04/2007
Nov.13th, diagnosed with 5mm Meningioma
9/24/08 diagnosed with Aneurysm
Wait and watch per ENT's advice and researching my options!!! What's next???

Hi Madison:

I can relate to your panic as I also have tinnitus in both ears now. After AN surgery I had to endure the screaming tinnitus on the AN side. Then about a year later I started with tinnitus in my good ear and really feared the worst. I've had many MRIs since then and everything is fine - just have to put up with the annoying tinnitus in both ears now manage to tune it out as long as I'm not in a crowd or around all my five sons at once :-). I hope this puts your fears to rest a bit.

Madison .....

I'm with Cecile ..... never had tinnitus before the AN or surgery removal.  It began within a few days after surgery on the AN side only ..... gradually began developing in my non-AN ear about a year later.  So, I have it in both ears now.  20% hearing in my AN ear with significant tinnitus, which I can tune out much of the time, except in very loud environments or when I first try to go to sleep at night.  Perfect hearing in my non-AN ear and much softer tinnitus, but still there when I choose to focus on it.

..... this too shall pass ..... I wish!   ::)

thank you for your replies. i do feel better now. in fact, today my non-a.n. ear is normal again, although my hearing seems a bit off. it sounds a little tinny or echoey.
i have a feeling it's sinus related. hoping it gets better. thanks again everyone!

Madison ~

I've had tinnitus in both ears for years.  Fortunately, it's mild enough that I can usually 'tune it out'.  My non-'AN ear' is usually worse than my 'AN ear' but both have low-level tinnitus.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Interesting topic.  I had recently told my surgeon that I had developed tinnitus in my good ear.  He said not to worry, since my hearing is perfect in that ear.  He did not offer any explanations though :).  I have since had my yearly MRI (with contrast) and there are no signs of any abnormalities on that side of my head.  Would I have gotten the tinnitus on the good side had I never had an AN on the other?  Who knows.
