Fish oil vitamins for dry eye
« on: August 10, 2010, 07:26:42 pm »
Has anyone tried fish oil vitamins for dry eye.  My eye doc suggested trying them twice a day for a couples of months to  see if tthey would help.  Also has anyone found anything better than Celluvisc plus for daytime use.  I use them about every 1 hour and a half.  What about one clalled Optiva?  I need something with a little oilyness like real tears have.  My eye doctor says on a scale of 1 to 4 mine were a 1 1/2, still a few dry spots.  I get so tired of drops all day long!!!   Karen

I started out with regular drops by Optive and then went to the gel drops by Refresh.  Neither did enough for me.  So now I use Refresh PM, the ointment, all throughout the day.  It makes my eye blurry and oozes out of my eye, but at least it doesn't feel like there's something in my eye all the time.

Hmm, I take Omega3 fish oil 2 times a day and never miss a day.

The doc said I would need drug store tears and I bought a $25 little bottle and use it maybe 3 times. Bausch&Lomb Muro128.

Maybe the fish oil is saving my eye some.

I did mow the lawn today (Sunday) and boy my eye didn't like the dust and dirt at all. Had to flush it out allot.

Okay so I assume you mean orally not in the eye? I take Omega 369 orally each day. Does it help? Not sure but I keep it up.

I'm post op now and just started the fish oil back up again.

From my Joe public point of view. Before surgery I was told to stop the fish oil at least 7 days before surgery. But kept getting canceled. My left face was numb, no taste, dry mouth, burnt tong feeling. And my dry eye did feel allot dryer after I was off the fish oil.

Post-OP I have slight facial weakness and double vision. But it all seams to be healing. And after surgery. My right eye started crying all the time. and my left eye went, it seam, back to normal. Then over about 10 days in the hospital both eyes evened up.

Hi Karen:  I take Omega 3, but it doesn't help my dry eye.  I use Refresh PM exclusively b/c nothing else is strong enough.  You get use to the blurry vision (well, I have no choice in the matter !).   Always good thoughts,  Nancy

Hi.  for what it is worth, I think I have tried every possible kind of eye drop and at least two fish oil pills a day and the drops that I like best (a little oily like substance) is the Bausch & Lomb Soothe XP emolient eye drop.  It gives me instant relief and last for several hours.  The second drop that I would recommend is the Refresh Liquigel lubicant eye drops. My opthamologist recommended that I take this drop at bedtime as it is a gel.  Hope this helps.

I've been taking Lovaza, which is a prescription fish oil for a year and it has had absolutely NO effect at all on my eye.  It has, however, raised my good cholesterol.  :)  I usually use Refresh Celluvisc Sensitive gel drops during the day and Refresh PM or Genteal Ointment at night.  Most days I put drops in every hour or so.  Occasionally when the weather is very dry, I use the PM gel during the day, too.  The vision in my right eye is always blurry, but I've kind of gotten used to it.

Good luck!
