I'm just the bearer of more very sad news. My brother Danny is in the last stage of his life. He has been in the hospital since mid Nov. He went in because of complications of diabetes and the hospital was having a problem containing a C-dif outbreak, of course because of his weaken state he came down with it. The treatment has been brutal and it hasn't been successful. His diabetes has also gotten worse. Dan has had two surgeries for gangrene in the last week. Monday he decided to stop all treatment, he doesn't want any more surgeries. He took half a treatment of hemodialysis so his daughter and her family could come in from Ottawa and say their good byes. Now we are keeping him company, waiting for him to fall asleep, slip into a coma and gentle pass away. From what we all understand it will be a painless and very peaceful passing.
Dan will leave behind a wife of 50 years, three grown children, seven grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. He served in the Canadian Military for 30 years. Please keep him and my family in your prayers. This is a very difficult journey for all who loved him. The memories that are flooding my mind stop me in my tracks. He is a true hero.
