The Wii Fit has the board. You can do all kinds of stuff - yoga, strengthening.. there's even a bunch of balance exercises. I like them because you don't feel like you're doing work - it's fun (and pretty funny to watch, I'm sure!). The Wii without the board can help your balance too - just having to keep yourself upright while playing some of those games is a workout. Usually they have a demo one set up in the store - I know our Walmart and Best Buy do. Maybe you can go try one out before you spend the money on one.
Really anything that challenges your balance will help. You can put the couch cushions on the floor and walk on them. Walk in the grass instead of the sidewalk. Try walking while slowly turning your head side to side. That last one is best performed in a shopping mall while window shopping.
My balance has definitely gotten quite good now. I just pushed myself a little at a time and eventually my body figured out what it needed to do for me to remain standing. I took some yoga classes at the Y also and I know that helped. I just stayed in the back of the class close to a wall so as not to knock the rest of the class down like dominoes.
If you are able to find a therapist to go to, he or she can give you some things to work on at home. Actually, if you try doing a search on this forum, there are probably some balance exercises listed on here.
