BAHA Finally
« on: April 16, 2011, 04:57:59 pm »
I know I haven't been on the board much, but I haven't been on any message board much. Not home much.

Anyway I am finally going to start the BAHA process. I get the post put in on Friday 4/22.  ;D

My new primary insurance won't cover it but the secondary said they will and they will cover it even if the primary doesn't.

I’m getting excited.

Congratulations, Ellen.

I'm excited for you!

Is Dr. Battista doing your implant?

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

He definitely is - he's made a huge difference in my life.  And he's so darn nice; I couldn't ask for a better doc  ;D

I just talked to him yesterday evening, but please give him my best on the 22nd.

Good luck with the surgery, it's sooooo much easier than AN surgery.  I'm confident you'll do well and that you'll love your BAHA.

If you have any questions post op, please don't hesitate to ask.

Well everything went well today. Heads a little bit sore right now but Dr.Battista said i did very well. I chose to have the local instead of being put under.
It was different, I could not see what he was doing but I could hear it and feel the pulling and pushing. At first it was a dull sound when he was drilling but once he put in the post I could hear the rest of the mounting as clear as could be.

Ellen -

glad everything went well.  I had local also and I didn't mind it at all.

A little soreness is perfectly normal.

Happy healing and congratulations ;D

I couldn't agree More James.
Just that litlle bit of sound while they were putting it in was so clear I wanted the processor right away, but I know I have to wait. :(

Waiting is hard, but your Gotcha Day will be here before you know it.

Does Dr. Battista still follow the 90-day waiting period, or has he shortened that now that there is new "equipment"?

Once you've healed a few days, if you gently rub your fingertip on your abutment you'll actually hear the sound.  Used to make me grin, while waiting for my processor.

Well I had good news yesterday. My anual MRI looked good and my BAHA abutment area looks really good.

Then to make the day even better I got my processor yesterday as well.

So Far so good. I do have some feed back when I bend over but we will see how it goes.

I know that some people have feedback issues, but I very seldom do. I changed my sunglasses, because the old frame touched the BAHA and that caused feedback.

Anyway, glad you are a member of the club.

Ellen,
Congratulations!

James,
Interesting about your sunglasses.  When I had the abutment placed, they had me put on my sunglasses and drew a line around where the frame hit my head.  Then, they worked around that!

Ellen,
Congratulations. If the feedback continues, go see your audiologist.

James, funny about the sunglasses. When I had my abutment placed, they drew a line around my sunglasses frame so they could place the abutment above it!

My surgeon also "measured" where my glasses would sit and raised the abutment slightly.  Good thing because I need glasses to read and can't wear contacts.  I wear those "fitover" sunglasses (I know, I'm a dork, but they protect my eye!) and occasionally the bar of those will hit my baha and cause feedback.  Not a big deal and always fixable as soon as I adjust the glasses a bit.

Enjoy your baha!
