Dr. McKenna's health
« on: July 25, 2011, 06:19:43 pm »
Had my presurgery evaluation at MGH today and was preparing for August 5th surgery with Barker/McKenna. On the ride home Dr. Mckenna's secretary called with bad news, surgery was cancelled due to a medical emergency for Dr. Mckenna. I may be able to reschedule in October or switch to Barker/Lee. Anyone know what happened. Dr. Mckenna is such a great doctor and person and has helped so many people. Has anyone used Dr.Lee.
I hope and pray that Dr Mckenna is OK but now I need decide either to wait for Dr. Mckenna or switch to Dr. Lee.  Peace Dave

I just had surgery with McKenna on May 31st.  He has not looked so well this year, he has put on a lot of weight these last two years and frankly I was worried about his health.  I hope he is ok, if anyone hears anything please post.
Diagnosed 6/2008
Right AN 2cmx8x9
Sub-Occipital at Mass General with Martusa and McKenna on 5/31/11
Right SSD, very little taste
I think I will make it!

Hi Dave,

I met Dr. Lee at UMASS before he went to MEEI.  I thought his people skills were not good.  He freaked me out asking if I had a family history of cancer while looking at my first MRI.  He told me I had an AN without a CT scan which revealed I had a hemangioma. I also thought he didn't want to listen to what I had to say.

It is just my personal opinion but I'd wait for Dr. McKenna if it were possible to wait.

Have you decided?

Hope to get another surgery date scheduled with Dr Mckenna this week. Helen ,his secretary, said he may be back by late September and should be better than ever. We still do not know what happened. I will be calling next week to try and reschedule. Today people were surprised to see me in church 2 days after my surgery (which did not happen). If only it was that easy. Hanging in there Dave J

Sounds like he had something major.......that means he wasn't well when he did my operation, he sure put on a smile and was a true gentleman when he made rounds.  That is great that Helen says he will be better than ever, something got fixed, that is good.

I don't know what happened, but I do hope Dr. McKenna is recovering. Just a few days ago, I called his office to schedule my post-op MRI/appt (5 years next month!) and was told it would be scheduled for October because Dr. McKenna was out of the office until then. At least it sounds like he's planning on returning. That gives me hope for his continued good health.

Helen(Dr McKennas secretary) told me today that Dr. Mckenna is doing great and has already lost 15 lbs. He will be back by the end of sept. and was willing to do my AN Surgery Sept. 23. She also said that he would be cutting back a little on his hours. I have scheduled surgery again with Mckenna/Barker on Nov.4th.  peace Dave

Great to hear that he is doing well what ever happened to him.  His secretary, Helen is such a nice person, I enjoy talking with her.

Dave - I am having surgery with Lee (MEEI) and Barker the end of September.  Maybe.   :'(  They are having some issues with my surgery date.  They added some extra surgery dates (one of which was mine) since McKenna was out.  They just moved their surgical suites and my surgery was not in the new schedule.  I have been waiting since last week to see if they can book an OR.   Hopefully I will find out soon - the waiting is very nerve racking.  Thanks for the well wishes.
